I'm looking at Tahiti as a possible longhouse to stay in, but I am concerned about lingering smoke odours. My son has asthma and has an amazing sense of smell. I'm wondering from those who have stayed here if there is any lingering smell of smoke.

As well, are the garden view rooms nice in Tahiti? My H likes this location as it is far removed from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the grounds :)

thanks,
tori

I haven't knowingly stayed in a room that was previously used for smoking, so unfortunately I can't answer the first part of your question. That's a concern of mine, too, as I am severely allergic to cigarette smoke. If you want to avoid it for certain, you could maybe ask for a room in a building that was never smoking to begin with (I *think* that would include Tokelau and Rapa Nui, which are the same size rooms as Tahiti ... someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

As far as garden views in Tahiti, though, I think they're very pretty (of course I think it's hard to get a "bad" view at the Poly!). We had a first floor room once and it felt very private, even though we were on the main level. :)

thanks amy!

I know my H wants to be away from all the action, so maybe rapa nui would be ok, or tokelau...liking tokelau...seeing a direct path to that (hopefully!) not as used part of the beach, and is still close to the pools.

I'm assuming tho that rooms there go fast as it is a good location, so maybe rapa nui... :)

Glad to help! :)

Rapa Nui is a really nice building. We were there May of last year. It's true that it's far from the GCH, but we loved being close to the TTC and being able to park so close to the building. We had a view of the non-parking lot side and it was really beautiful. We spent a lot of time sitting out on the balcony just enjoying the view. And it was a nice walk to the GCH along the pretty pathways. :goodvibes

We stayed in Roratunga (sp?) last year . We loved the location. We were on ground flood with a view of the quiet pool. There was no smell of previous smoke, believe me! That building is also right next to the GH. If it happens to rain, you won't get wet. We also liked being close to the monorail and captain cooks.

I'm so glad you asked this question; I was wondering about this myself. My son and DH are very sensitive to cigarette smoke, so I would hate to have our stay at the Poly marred by any odors in our room. Should we just try to be on the safe side and avoid any of the longhouses that used to be smoking-optional?

We stayed in two different garden view rooms in Tahiti during January of this year, and I'm particularly sensative to cigaratte smoke, and had no problems...so whatever they did cleaning wise must've worked, because if I didn't "know," then I never would've known that there had smoking in the building...

We stayed in the Tahiti longhouse in August and loved it. There was no lingering smell of smoke anywhere although certain areas had a musty smell (like wet clothes had been lingering around for awhile).

Niue used to be a smoking longhouse. Its got a great location. I wonder if anyone has stayed in this longhouse since the changeover??? Because I'd love to now that its smoke-free if its not stinky!
