Question re: BLT availability in 2009 when BLT is home resort?

We are planning on buying into BLT when we return from our vacation next week. We have a cruise booked for September, 2009 and I was hoping to use points to book a 2 bedroom at BLT for the night before we cruise. I'm reading that there doesn't seem to be a lot of availability at BLT in September. Since we will be new BLT owners, is there some way to guarantee that we get a room at our home resort or are we going to have to get waitlisted or book somewhere else? I appreciate your input in advance. Thank you!!

When you buy direct from Disney you should be able to book right away. By the next day in most cases. They can't guarantee anything until you have you membership number and your info in the system, but you don't have to wait for closing to book. Ask your guide when your info will be in the system so that you can book and call right away. That is the best advise I can give.

Normally, the advantage of having a home resort is having the ability to book stays at that resort 11 months in advance. BLT this year is an exception since it is opening in August. All BLT owners were able to book the first of February, with non-owners able to book ~ a week later. This resulted in a lot of reservations being made in early February. If you try to book at BLT and there is not anything available, my understanding is that you will go on a waitlist regardless of whether it is your home resort or not. They will not bump reservations that have already been made. I would check the availability thread for September to see if the days that you are looking at have been reported as being booked. It looks like so far most of the sold out dates are studio & 1 BR MK views. Hopefully you will be just fine.
