Question re. AAA discounts

Hi all,

We're currently in the planning phase for this year's trip. We've got another 40% off room PIN like the one we used last year. This year, however, our son will be three and we will have to purchase passes and the dining plan for him. I have a quote right now from Disney that is roughly $600 more than what we paid last year. I asked the agent why the price had gone up so much as this is roughly $300 more than I was expecting with the addition of our son's pass and dining plan. She said one reason was that the room type we wanted (we're staying at the Wilderness Lodge at the end of September and requested a standard room) was unavailable and the quote was for the woods view room.

All that being said...I was wondering if going through AAA might give us access to the room type we want and/or a better overall discount than the 40%. Does anyone with AAA experience have any suggestions? We currently are not members, but are willing to join if it will save us money. Thanks for your help and good luck to everyone planning their trips. :)

If there are no Standard rooms at the 40% when you call Disney there will still be no rooms when AAA look using the same Pin code. There is always a chance you can grab a cancellation though. If you want to stay at WL I say book the woods view and keep calling to see if you can get a standard view. Remember that there are limited rooms under the 40% so you might not get any.

When I tried booking WL for end of September there were no standard rooms available either and I ended up with a Courtyard View.

X amount of rooms are set aside for each discount under each category for each hotel. As guests, we don't know if that x variable is 1000 or 0. So, yes, it is possible that what isn't available under the 40% off code is available under the AAA discount.

I don't have AAA, but from everything I've read, I do believe that the AAA discount will be no where near as good as the 40% off discount. However, you are looking at two different categories, so if the AAA gives you a lower bottom line, then all is good. And AAA would be a package discount.

It cannot hurt to call AAA and get a quote. Compare the two and decide which is better for you. You can always keep an eye out for other codes to be released and see if those deals beats whatever you book with, most likely not with the 40% off, but very possible with AAA. Heck, somthing might beat the 40%--it's happened before. Especially since you want a package and are using a room only discount, so something (like the 4/3 deal) could come out and give you a discount on rooms and tickets.

Since you are not AAA yet, you'll probably have to find someone willing to get the quote for you to see if it is worth the cost of joining AAA. Maybe someone here will do it or you have a friend or relative who can do it.

I have to stay, I LOVE the woods view at WL. We stayed on the 5th floor, over looking the otter pond and we could see the monorail, the castle, the fireworks, and a corner view of the eletrical paegant from our balcony. It was one of the best views ever. Very peaceful. The woods and pond were fantastic too. And, as the pp mentioned, you can book the woods view and keep calling to see if you can get a standard view later with the discount.
