Question on World Passport Collection - Venice, Italy

My son is going to be in Venice, Italy for a college study program (lucky kid). Has anyone exchanged points to stay at the Venice site listed in the World Passport Collection - Le Ville Del Lido?
My wife and I may pay him a visit while he is there. Any help on this, or exchanges in general would be appreciated. Thanks

Just an FYI it seems that this hotel is at the Lido (the beach area) not in Venice proper. It is about a 15 minute boat ride to Venice proper.

I know he is in for the BEST time of his life. I did a study abroad in college as well in Rome through Loyola univeristy. Best decision I ever made. (of course, I have to say that b/c I met my husband there LOL) Lido is just the name of the beach area- spiaggia means beach. It all depends on where your son's university is located. In Venice or in the outlying area? As DVC members we are pretty used to posh accomodations. When you exchange in Europe, don't be surprised when hotels have MUCH smaller room sizes and fewer amneties than what you are used to receiving. Tell your son Bocca da Lupo!!! (Good Luck)

I can't find it listed on the Timeshare users group. It's not 5* and is 6 miles from venice. It only has 2 B R units. If I were looking at timeshare for Venice, I'd talk to Dial An Exchange Europe and see if they have anything. You might find something much better, closer and more appropriate. It's hard for me to imagine anyting in Italy worth trading my DVC points for though. I'd think there are more appropriate venues for a single college student in the situation you're looking at.

Lido is just the name of an area that is a bit far away from the main part of Venice. Don't recomedn staying there. Your best bet is to look for good rates to hotels near Piazza di San Marco or the Rialto Bridge.

If you want to experience something really worth it, try the Danieli Hotel which overlooks the lagoon. Otherwise there are many small hotels around the area. Venice is THE MOST romantic place on earth with music and mistery roaming in the air.

And don't forget to try a Bellini at the Cipriani hotel where Hemingway used to hang out.

Thanks to you all for the information. Dean - the timeshare exchange would be for my wife and I. My son's school will be making his arrangements. I realize exchanges may not yield the quality of room DVC provides - I just thought I'd investigate the possibility of visiting him while he's there and if I we do we would want accomodations that don't break our bank. His trip is fairly expensive and I have the frequent flyer miles so I figured my wife and I could take an inexpensive trip using points. Not the best value for the dollar, but when you have two in college you have to be creative.

I've stayed on the the Lido, not where DVC has an exchange, and I have to say it is beautiful. Granted I was there in '82 but it has quaint shops and cafes. It is an easy boat trip to Venice.
