We have a trip booked for Easter week which is a gold pass blackout dates so we are purchasing tickets through UT (5 day park hopper with water park and more). I am planning on attending a conference in Orlando in October and was considering upgrading to a gold pass. Will I be able to do this? If so, do I need to do in the park on our last day or through DVD member services? Also, if I do upgrade, will we be able to download the photo pass pictures from Easter weekend or will I only be able to download images that are dated from the first day of my annual pass?

You can, we just did the same thing 23 Dec. Upgraded 5 DVC 25th anniversary 5 day tickets and 2 tickets bought elsewhere. The tickets at work options have seemed the best deal if they have one that works for you otherwise. We Actually got a $22 per ticket credit on those when upgrading to Silver passes. So our total OOP for the Silver passes on those tickets was around $382 after taxes. You have to do it within 14 days and in the parks or after the last entry else you wouldn't be able to get in again if it's a blackout period.

I can confirm also that you can upgrade your tickets to a gold pass after using them for a blackout period. We just did this at Christmas time after using a 10 day hopper from December 27 to Jan 2nd, we upgraded on the 2nd. Zero problems.

The first day of your AP (and renewal date) will be the date you first used the 5-day hopper. And all PhotoPass images linked to your account in the previous year will suddenly reappear in your account, even though they had "expired" 45 days after being taken!

We upgraded at guest services in Disney Springs.
Just a warning this location can be very busy. We waited 30 minutes for them to fix the expiration date on 2 of the ones upgraded and I talked to someone a few days ago that waited over an hour between Xmas and NY.

Very true. I waited a full two hours!!! But it was the second to last day for the 13 month deal, so I think that drove up the wait time. They do have a waiting list though, so I just sat in a super comfy chair and trip reported for 2 hours.
