Question on resale restrictions with two contracts (one after new 2019 restrictions)

Hello,

I have two resale contracts that are both under one member ID (same UY.) There is no distinction that I can see in my account that the one has the post 2019 restrictions. I have a DVCY member card that shows for the member ID not individual contracts.

My question is if I try to book Riviera on the post 2019 contract will that be possible? Is the DVC site able to distinguish these two contracts other than just by different home resorts (as in, that one contract is able to book outside the 14 original resorts, but the other isn't?)

Hopefully I made my question clear enough:) - thanks in advance!

Yes the website distinguishes between the contracts. Only the one eligible to book Riviera will show up as an option if you go through the process to book a room there.

If you have grandfathered resale points, they can book RIV. We have no idea if your contracts are grandfathered or not. If you can see RIV on the DVC website, then you can book it, at least with some of your points. I can't see RIV at all when I search.

Thanks all. One is a grandfathered contract purchased in 2015 and the other in 2020. I do see Riviera when I search (I had no idea that restricted contracts didn't!)
Sounds like if I plan to book Riviera, I have to do it with the 2015 contract.

I had this exact same situation. When you go to book RIV, only the contract from 2015 will show as an option to choose to book.

The system knows exactly what works and what doesn’t. And for others, having DVC Y is related to membership extras and plays no role in where points can be used when booking a tri

I see what you mean now. I just tried to do a test book and the only contract listed was the 2015 one.

Thanks again all!

Think of it this way: Because you have only one member card, it's marked at the highest level of membership you have (DVC Y) but if you got a card per contract one would NOT be DVC Y.

While this is true, I just want to point out that the DVC Y or DVC ND plays no role in whether points can be used at RIV or future resorts.

Resale points between 2016 and 2019 are eligible for RIV but do not qualify someone for membership extras.

Fair. Still, kinda applies in this case.

I get that but I think it is important for people who are buying or adding on to understand that the two are not related with each other.

Membership extras are perks and are not guaranteed. They are not part of the contract and considered incidental benefits. The DVC Y only relates to those.

Where points can be used is based on POS language And as long as you have direct points, or resale points purchased prior to 2019, those points are valid everywhere, no matter how many you own.

So, someone can add on 100 direct points today as an owner, and those points are good at RIV and future resorts..it has nothing to do with the coding of DVC Y or DVC ND. That classification doesn’t attach to contracts…it attaches to a membership.
