Is OKW still available to purchase as a new owner? If yes what is the cost?

I saw on another post that there were two end year dates, as a new owner which would you get?
Disney's Old Key West Resort OKW Opened 10/1/1991 - Expires 1/31/2042 or 1/31/2057

Does anyone know what the current cost to purchase SSR is? I know AKL is $135 and BLT is, I think, $165

I know this question has been asked before and of course cannot find the info now. What is the biggest difference with purchasing direct or buying resale?

My last question is this, I know we can add the dining plan to a DVC reservation. What about Premium or Platinum plans are those an option to add on?

Thank you

OKW $100 per point. The minimum buy in is supposed to be 160 points but have had reports of being 50 these days. If you buy direct from Disney your end date will most likely be 2057.

SSR is $110 per point.

You can get OKW and SSR in the $50/$60 range with resale. The difference in price makes up for the lenghty wait for resale. The restrictions with resale don't matter if you just want to use your points at the DVC resorts.

Don't know about your dining question. Sorry.

Thank you for the reply

We do travel other places other than Disney what are the restrictions with buying resale? other than waiting for the points and higher closing costs. I tried to go to the timeshare store website but getting an error message

Restrictions are that you cannot use resale points for DCL and the Concierge, Disney and Adventurer Collections. You can still use these points for RCI.

Thanks, my DH feels more comfortable going with Disney directly but I am trying to gather all the information, including resale option, so that we can sit down and make the decision that works best for us

Currently we are thinking of purchasing at SSR or AKL but I do like OKW and the lower price point helps. We are only intersted in OKW if it has the 2057 end date and I think this option is only available through Disney directly

DVC is offering 10 points for every 100 purchased right now plus if we put down 20% they give us an additional 150 points, one use only, for SSR to be used before Sep 30, 2013 no matter which resort we buy into. UY on purchase is Feb 2012 meaning that we would get the points now and then get them again in Feb 2013 so that we can combine them to use in 2013 if we wanted to. If I am understanding the usage correctly

For those of you more familiar with DVC what do you think of this offer?

there were a handful of OKW owners who extended to 2057 but it was a terrible deal so most of us opted out.

if you look at the timeshare store resale link above, you'll see a few examples, like this one:

i'm assuming that deal is for AKV only?

IMO, if you want to save money, you'll buy resale.

remember that if your circumstances change and you need to sell, you will be selling on the resale market. disney will not offer to buy back your pts.

the resale limitations won't really affect you much as the trading options come with very high prices.

i would recommend taking a few more months and doing more research before buying. but if you are happy staying at AKV or SSR and want pts *right now*, it's your money...

The extended OKW can be found with resale if you are patient.

I thought the 10 points for every 100 incentive was only for AKV and Aulani. The 150 one use only for SSR is attractive with the 20% down payment. Very nice incentive.

Correct about the Feb UY. You would get current years' points and they can be combined with 2013 points. That's what we did when we bought BLT 3 years ago. We had to bank the current years' (2009) points into 2010 for our vacation in 2010. We bought Sept 2009 and those points had to be banked by Sept 30.

called DVC to get more information about the extra points and SSR
Both of these are only for AKL or Aulani DVC purchases and only if purchased before September 29, 2012

OKW does have the 2057 end date if purchased through Disney and they had the points we want with an August date

Thanks for bringing up that point as that will help factor in our decision. We are looking to purchase about 300 points and the OKW resales I have seen that have this much are the old end date. If we decide to wait I will definitely keep looking. I don't have a problem with resale but DH looked at the options available to use points in the concierge collection and wants that option since we do travel to locations other than Disney. It is up for discussion and why I am gathering information so that when we sit down this weekend we have everything and can make an informative decision instead of a rushed one. That is one reason we didn't purchase three weeks ago when we were at Disney I wasn't comfortable going into it without having all the details. I had looked a bit into it a couple of years ago but wasn't planning on purchasing and didn't get too far in the research, we are now serious about it

Thanks again

It appears that extended OKW contracts are a bit rare on the resale market, but it does appear that Fidelity has a few. (they list them after the other OKW listings.)

Good luck with you decision.

FWIW, it does appear that TTS is having some trouble with their website now. The home page comes up but listings are non-existent.

The main reason, I bough direct is cause I plan on using my points for DCL and the other avalable options .

Althouh you get almost all the perks from resale . I would also be worried about how they may decide to limit resale in the future . Plus I like the financing .

Buying that many points, I would definitely consider the resale option. First, the options that are restricted from Disney for resale contracts purchased now are options that are not guaranteed as part of your purchase, even if you buy direct. So, in 5 years from now, or next year, for that matter, they can remove those options from everybody. Second, I believe, that anyone can all and pay to have a 2042 contract extended to 2057. It's about $25/pt.

However, as already mentioned, you can find extended contracts resale as well and it would still be cheaper than Disney. For that many points, you could be talking around $9000.

SSR expires in 2054 with AKV expiring in 2057. So, if you are not dead set on OKW, then you can find those via the resale market for a great price as well, with the longer expiration.

We have bought and sold contracts through a couple of different brokers and the experience was great. The biggest drawback with resale is the time factor but if you have 3 to 4 months before you would need/want the points, given how many you want to buy, I would give resale serious consideration.

Good luck!!!
