Question on Home resort and ressies

I have a quick question.

Let's say my homeresort is BWV. Let's also say my UY is August 2008 and I have 200 points coming on then. I want to make a ressie with those 200 points for Sept 2008 at my home resort. Does it have to be August before I can make the ressie? I know I can make a ressie 11 months in advance at my home resort, but do I actually have to have the "points in hand"?

No, you can make the reservations before you actually receive your points for a given year. The 11 month home resort booking window works as long as you will have points to use for your reservation. Of course if you are short of points, you can also borrow from the next year.

No, you can make your reservation 11 months in advance. They will use the points that coincide with the dates of your reservation.

Awesome! We are planning on buying points from a re-seller for BWV and we want to use some of the points for a trip later this year!

2008 later this year? Believe it or not, its getting late to start a resale and be assured of staying at BWV in 2008 at certain times. October is getting booked up as the seven month March days pass (and some October days towards the end of the month are already booked). Early December is already booked for some days as is New Years Eve. If you make an offer today, plan on it taking approximately two months before you can make reservations.

If you purchase direct from DVC, your guide can help you make reservations before you even close (once he gets the deposit). Points will be a LOT more expensive than what they are going for for BWV resale right now though.

I don't mean to discourage you from buying BWV resale (we did six years ago with no regrets) - I just don't want you to be disappointed if availability isn't what you imagine it to be by the time you close.

It's a misconception that points are 'deposited' into your account at the beginning of your use year.

Actually all points for all years are already in your account for every use year. That's why it's possible to borrow points from years that are still pretty far away.

Example: You have a February use year month and want to make a reservation today, for February 2009. You can do so and even borrow your February 2010 use year points to make that reservation, since even your 2010 points are already in your account. There's no magical date when points are 'deposited'.

Likewise your 2011 points, 2012 points and so on are all already in your account. The only restrictions are that they are subject to banking/borrowing rules and use year timeframes.

September will be a good time to try for shorter notice reservations. And if not at the Boardwalk - which I think will be pretty likely, its a good time of year for something to be available pretty much right up to travel. Good luck!
