Question on Boma?

We would love to visit AKL and the best way to do this is to eat there. I was wondering if the food was very spicy or if a family of fairly plain eaters would enjoy Boma. The food sounds delicious but if it's spicy I know my family won't eat it. Are we better sticking with 1900 Park Fare or Chef Mickey or should we explore the unknown?

I did not find the food at Boma Spicy... they had lots of great salads, fruits, breads, soups that were in the "normal" category.

They had a couple of soups with curry in them - but still they were quite mild... the flank steak had a spice on it but not hot to the tongue, more like a cinnamon flavour.
There was also an area with spaghetti & meatballs, macaroni and cheese, chicken fingers (the breast fillet kind) french fries etc...

I think you should give Boma a try... it does have some differnt dishes but nothing too scary LOL... excellent desserts too

We are not spicy food eaters, and we've eaten at Boma a few times with no problems at all. The food there is full of unusual tastes, all of which were good.

What is great about eating at Bomas is going out and looking at the wildlife outside while waiting! It truly is incredible if you can't stay at AKL.

On our last trip in June, we had PS's for Bomas. Well, DD got very ill, so DH and I stayed at the condo while the rest dined. They raved about it. They thought it was the best place for dinner so far and we had eaten at a lot of places during our stay. They made another PS for another evening so the three of us could also enjoy such a wonderful meal. Well, the second night was just kinda off. The food was different and Mr. Meat and Potatos DH hated it. I did not think anything was very spicy. Unfortunately, don' t think we will be back with DH's tastes.

Pity they don't serve lunch there. Can't quite fit this into the dinner schedule. Any comments about breakfast here?

The barbequed meat (flank steak?) was a bit spicy - they rub it with spices and marinade it. The chicken was very good as was the salmon. My son loved the chicken nuggets.

I wouldn't call the food spicy, either, but some of it is 'spiced' with flavors that were very different to me. We love it and go every trip. There's always been beef and chicken that were cooked pretty traditionally (although there was some hot sauce for the meat that was optional), along with salad and side dishes.

If some of your party are concerned, just have them take very tiny servings first and then they can decide what they like and want to have more of.

The most descriptive word used concerning the "spice" at Boma's that I read on these boards prior to my first visit was "savory". I would say the food has an unusual if more sweet spice than anything else. My family loves this place despite a couple of very picky eaters, me included! There's lots of variety to choose from and enough 'normal' stuff to make it worthwhile. There's also a kids buffet with the basic kid fare.
Definitely take an opportunity to explore this unknown!

Thanks everyone. We are taking your advice and making a PS at Boma. This will also give us a good chance to explore the lodge and to find a wood carved giraffe for my oldest DS (he has been saving since Christmas and it is the only souvenier he wants this trip). I am really looking forward to trying something new.
