Ok, so we haven't even really thought about having a second child yet, but already are discussing names...for a girl we're set, but the name I really like for a boy, would give the child bad initials. The initials would be PCP - as in the drug. Also, not sure if I like first and last name starting with the same letter, but its the only boys name we both really like. Anyhow, question is, would you not choose a name because of the initials? Do you think people would notice, and especially kids in school?

Initials don't seem to be a big thing around here or I wouldn't be PHH and my grandson wouldn't be WAN.
If that first P is Phil I say go for it.

I have to say that we changed our choice for a boy's name because his initials would be DAM. In my experience, though, most people don't even use their middle initial, just first and last. But then, if he dropped the C, he would be PP:rolleyes:
I think he would be teased more for that then PCP:rolleyes:

I doubt many people would notice especially kids. Also, many people use a nickname or their middle name instead of their first name that others don't even know their real name. A perfect example is our DD, her name is Catherine Elizabeth but we call her Libby. Her first and middle name are family names with special meaning but we wanted to call her something cute and easy. We also didn't like the way her name sounded if we reversed the middle and first name. Ok, I think I've gone on long enough. Good luck.

I know that my parents told me they were going to call me Pamela, but that would have made my initials PU!

So...

my sister's initials are SEL. i used to tease her that my parents were going to SELL her! :p :o

i don't think initials are that big of a deal. :)

Without the middle initial, it would be PP-- more likely to be teased by other kids, but probably not a huge deal.

My mother's initials, prior to marriage, were SAG.

My initials are ALS, like the disease - I'll always resent my parents for that. :p Maybe I'm naive, but when I see PCP I don't think "drug", so maybe other people won't either?

I avoided naming my third child Hayden Olivia because her initials would have been HOG - just could not do that. My FIL's are F A G and his ex-wife's were NAG (oh how that fit!).

Some of our friends named their daughter Isabelle Riley Sullivan. Mom's parents were so pissed that the baby's initials were IRS that they refused to spend Riley's first Christmas with the family.

I ended up with JABW after I got married, and the first thing that I always think of when I see all my initials togather is Jabberwalky from Alice In Wonderland. You just never know!

FYI, my kids are AJW and MVW!

well my ds is CNN and I am RAN ( so is one of my brothers) guess we never thought about it lol

I definitely watched the initials when I was choosing names. My nephew's initials are MSG. :D

I also think he will get teased for the PP inititials more than anything, but if you really love the name I wouldn't fret about it too much. I'm sure he can come up with a good pee-pee comeback when he is older and when he is younger kids won't pick up on it.

Single word names would be nice such as Cathy, Rudy. Two word names i think is unnecessary, why would name them, when you just call him his/her initials or nicks.

Jordan's initials are "JAM". He was always called Jordan by everyone until 3rd grade when his teacher (who I know from high school) called him "JAM". Now, all teachers, students, and doctors call him that. He even writes that on his school papers.

Mam-Maw, Pap-Paw, me/Mom and all the relatives still call him Jordan.

My maiden name was King and my initials were TAK. I got stupid little jokes about my name....kids would ask me my last name (who knew it) and when I said king they would say "kong" and konk me on the head! Duh! Kids grew out of it...everyone gets picked on for something.

Now that I am married, my initials are TAB, like the nasty diet soda!

poohbear - my maiden name was King too! :) Wonder if we are related? ;)

My initials now are EAR - ear. :)

When I hear PCP these days, I think of Primary Care Physician. Not at all negative.

There are some initial combinations that I would avoid, but PCP would not me one of them.

(And to be upset because a grandchild's initials were IRS is just WAY overly sensitive IMHO!)

That's too funny! My family is all from Mass...

See ya at the family reunion!:smooth:

Well, I come from the PENNSYLVANIA Kings, you know. ;)

It always fun to meet a long-lost "relative", huh poohbear? :teeth:
