Due to DH coming home sick with broncitious today I had to cancel our trip that was suppose to start tomorrow we bought the annual passes when they had 13for 12 months so if I'm correct the 13 months don't start until there activated even though I'm
Not sure when that will be it could be later this year or next jan. thanks for any advice

They will not be activated until you actually go to the park! so you have 13 months from the date you first "scan" at the parks, they will not go to waste. good luck planning the next trip hope everyone stays healthy!
If it's any consolation, I just got home yesterday and Orlando is getting a streak of cold weather all week!

Close, but that's not totally accurate.

APs DO have to be activated, in-person, at WDW, but they don't automatically activate by being "scanned at the park gates."

An AP must be activated by going to a ticket booth or Guest Relations (along with the guest showing a legal photo ID) and at that point, the AP becomes active.
A guest can THEN go into a park gate (but, some guests do not actually head into a park on that day.)
Regardless, the date that a guest gets the AP activated becomes the "anniversary date" for that AP, and it begins its countdown. (12 months or 13 months, depending on the deal at the time.)

Just one thing left to correct/add. You need to activate them within 18 months in order to get the free month. Now I'm not sure if that is 18 months from jan 3 or 18 months from when you purchased them.

@ravenclawtrekkie what is the ticketing guidelines you are all following in regards to this?

I believe we were told within 18 months of purchase for the free month, but we don't really go into detail on procedure for things that won't matter for months.

Here is what I was told because i wanted to be sure about the same issue.

1. The AP itself expires on December 31, 2030. This is just the AP itself and I do not know if you activate it on Dec 31, 2030 that you get 12 months from that date for use.
2. To get the 13th month free, the AP must be activated within 18 months of the Purchase Date
3. Activating after 18 months from the Purchase Date, you lose the 13th free month.

Clarification of #1.
What you are actually describing not an "AP," but an AP "certificate."
(The certificate that guests purchase in advance in order to get an activated AP when they go, in-person, to WDW.)
The guest can use an AP certificate that expires December 31, 2030 to get an activated AP up until the end of business on December 31, 2030.

If a guest does not activate an AP certificate that expires December 31, 2030 by that date, it does not mean that the guest simply loses out on their AP entirely. If the certificate is allowed to expire, the guest can receive the amount originally paid for that certificate in a transaction of the purchase of a new, current AP certificate or AP.
