If you have an AP do you still have to buy a 4 day park ticket for 4/3 deals?

Yes.
Been the case for the last couple of years they've offered this promotion.
Buy a four day ticket and they give you a seven day ticket for the same price.

No! Last year I used the buy 4/get 3 nights free deal and as an AP holder just had to buy a one day park ticket. However, with the free dining deal this year two day tickets are required, so who knows if that's the way they're going from now on.:confused3 AP holders have never had to buy length of stay park tickets to get any deal though.

Going by memory -- I think there was a minimum 1 day pass for everyone. The best bargain was to buy a 6 or 7 day ticket, as there were free days on those tickets, to match the room rate. But I do not recall a length of stay type ticket where guests had to be a 6 or 7 day ticket.
And that was for anyone, regardless of being a passholder or not.

If I went with a 4/3 deal and took the 3 free days ticket instead of buying a one day because of my AP, what would the value of the 7 day ticket be next year if I wanted to upgrade it to an AP, the value of a 4 day pass or a 7 day pass?

In January 2009 I did 4/3 deal and got $200 gift card. I only bought a 1 day ticket.

In May 2009 I did 4/3 deal and again bought 1 day tickets but got no gift card.

In Jan 2010 I originally booked 4/3 deal and they required a 4 day ticket purchase. Then I was able to switch to 40% off AP discount. 4/3 deal was 43% off but I didn't want to spend an extra $400+ on tickets I didn't need. The "free" 3 park days was only worth about $10. AND...I still had unused tickets from other trips.

Disney promotions that are for packages always require the same terms for everyone, even AP holders.

So, if this comes out again next year, you will be required to purchase whatever ticket is required to get the promotion.

The only time you don't have to buy a ticket is when you do an AP ticketless package to add the dining plan, but this can not be combined with general public discounts, only AP room only codes.

If I went with a 4/3 deal and took the 3 free days ticket instead of buying a one day because of my AP, what would the value of the 7 day ticket be next year if I wanted to upgrade it to an AP, the value of a 4 day pass or a 7 day pass?
If you use it before you upgrade it, it will be the value of a 7 day pass at the then-current gate price. If you upgrade it before you use it, it will be the value of the 4 day ticket at that year's price.

Always use it before you upgrade!
