Hello there,

Not a member yet, but I'm on day 27 of my ROFR wait for an AKV contract. I'm already looking at the possibility of adding on points in the future, and I have a question about combining points from different resorts (I tried googling, but I couldn't find an answer to this specific situation - though maybe it's simpler than I think).

This is not my exact situation, but for simplicity here's a theoretical example: say I purchase 100 points at AKV and then later on, 50 points at OKW. Both contracts have the same UY.

I do understand that I can't use the 7-11 month window with all of the points - I can only use the home advantage for the points that are tied to a particular resort. However, it's my understanding that at 7 months, "points are points," and I could use all 150 points together, wherever there's availability.

This leads to my question - pretend that I don't want to use my AKV or OKW points for their respective resorts, and so I wait until 7 months and combine them to make a reservation at SSR or something. However, I don't have enough points for some reason, and I would need to borrow some points. Am I able to borrow points from both contracts and still have them all combined to make a reservation at 7 (or less) months out?

The reason I ask is that I know there are rules for "transferring" points from one contract to another, and you can't transfer borrowed points. When you have a single UY but two different resorts, is there ever any transferring involved, or do those rules not apply at all because the points are simply "combined"?

My suspicion is that since it's the same UY, I would be able to bank/borrow and then combine all of the points, but I definitely wanted to ask around to be sure. Thanks!

You only transfer points from a different UY or from a contract titled differently (thus a different member number). If you purchase two contracts with the same UY and they are titled the same, they should be under one member number (and numbered something like 12345.00 and 12345.01). If they are different member numbers, the contract would be numbered something like 12345.00 and 23456.00.

So, yes, you can easily borrow points from a future UY (the next one) to make a reservation when you are short points using the current UY (and combining two resorts) at seven months out or less.

For example, I have a Sept UY contract with two resorts (OKW and VWL) and I have a Dec UY with one resort (OKW). I wanted to reserve AKV at seven months out, so I used my Dec contract current UY and borrowed from the next UY to make the reservation. Then I combined the OKW and VWL Sept points to make a reservation at OKW. Two separate reservations at two different resorts at seven months out. I didn't transfer any points for these two reservations.

You are correct, at 7 months you can borrow from either or both contracts for your SSR reservation. You do not need to transfer.

Great question! :thumbsup2

Thank you both for your responses. I figured that was the case, but it's always good to make sure. :)
