question: if unhappy with your room, how do you ask to change?

Disneyland hotel story

Hello, we had an experience in Disneyland this summer when we went to check into the Embassy Suites. The hotel has a huge atrium in the center and is 12 stories high. When we arrived at the hotel they had a film crew taking pictures of the lobby for a brochure so wherever you stood you were basically in the way and they made you aware of it. They first checked us into the third floor, I had hoped for a higher floor, but we took it without saying anything. Well, we go up to our room and it is next to the laundry, vending and maid supply room. It actually shared a wall with it. I could just image people coming in and out of the room all night to do laundry, get soda's, plus they only had three soda machines in the whole building, not on every floor like in most hotels. My husband called down to ask if they had any other rooms, and they said to call back in a half hour, so we did and they said then to come back down to the desk. We got back down to the desk and then they gave us the second floor so we were getting lower but at least this room was in the middle of the hallway instead of an end, so we took it. We got up to the new room, when we opened the door we could hear some noise coming from the bedroom of the suite. My husband went in to find where the noise was coming from and then said, I don't think you want to see this. I went into the bedroom to see the curtains wide open with a view of the air conditioner unit, no lie, two feet away from our window. By now I was very upset, I asked my husband to go back down to the lobby with me, but he refused saying he was too embrassed. We had prepaid for this room six months in advance to get the lower rate so I felt that at least I could get a quiet room, I didn't care what it looked out on, it just had to be quiet at night. I trampsed back down to the lobby, by now the film crew were taking pictures at the front desk complete with a fake family checking in, so while I was waiting for them to finish, a bellman asked if he could help me, as I was explaining the problems with the rooms, I started to whimper because of my frustration, he said "no problem", I'll be right back. He came back five minutes later with two boxes of chocolates and new room keys, he said I'll take you up to see a different room and you can let me know if you like it. Well, now they happened to have a room on the seventh floor away from anything awful, he opened the door and the suite was huge with a conference table and everything. I said this is awesome, I'll take it. I went back to get my husband and kids and then to do some laundry, when I got back from the laundry room, the hotel had delivered a fruit basket, my husband asked "can you cry about anything else today for us"? ;)

For the prices disney charges for their rooms, and for the cost of a disney vacation in general, if I get to my assigned room and I'm not happy with it, for whatever reason, I am going to go back and ask for my room to be changed.

It is just not worth it to me to be unhappy my entire vacation because of room location, condition, etc.

As one poster stated, "standard view" can mean a variety of things, depending on the resort.

I have a few things to say about this. The first time we went to Disney, we stayed at the GF in Sugar Loaf. Our room was very nice and I had no problems with the room itself,BUT it was right outside the lounge in the lobby and right outside our patio door was the entrance to the bldg. itself and the pool. It was terrible and I had a 3 y.o. and a 7 month old at the time. I didn't feel like I should complain because I'm not really like that. Then the next stay we stayed at the Poly and again I had no problems with the room itself, but in the next room there was a special needs child who screamed at the top of her lungs all night long. My kids were little at the time also-under 5. I again didn't complain because I felt very bad about complaining about someone with special needs. I didn't want to feel like a monster-I felt very bad for this child but the screaming kept all of us up all night long. I was in a GV concierge room-a lot of money to be kept up all night. Now, I will voice my concerns about my room. If I'm not happy I will simply ask to be moved-I don't need to be upgraded-just want to be able to simply enjoy my vacation. So I see nothing wrong with voicing your concerns.

In Feb. 2003, my DW and I stayed at the Wilderness Lodge. We had booked a Courtyard View with a king bed. After arriving we found out that all the king bed rooms have showers only. Since my DW insists on taking baths instead of showers, I called the front desk to ask to be moved. I had no problems at all being moved to a two-queen bed room with a bath.

I still don't understand why the king bed rooms only have showers at WL though?

Wow, that's a tough one. I would have felt the same way as you, not wanting to complain, but I don't know if I would have been able to stay in that room for my whole trip and not being able to sleep. To me, having a quiet room is the #1 priority because I sleep so lightly, and although I would have feld terrible about it, I would have asked to move immediately.

Did it have a roll in shower? Many king rooms are handicap accessible.
