On VMK, I see a lot of people saying, "this is my brother" or "this is my sister" or even "she is my because in" (which I think to mean cousin).

Isn't this considered a bannable offense on VMK? Wouldn't that be considered a real life situation?

I am always concerned that I am going to get banned for being in a room with people that say things like that, especially since they talk with me about it. My sister and I play together, but I never tell people she is my sister. :rolleyes1

I know people don't follow the rules, that has been established, but I was curious if this was ever stated in a VMK Newsletter.

i don't know either, my brother and I always tell we are brother and sister so I will keep an eye on your thread to see what you find out.

technically yes. I have never heard of anyone getting action taken against them for it. But as always, do so at your own risk.

It's nothing I would report, but I would avoid doing it.

I would not report somebody for doing it, either. I was curious really. I don't see the harm in it any more than I see the harm in saying "I live on East Coast", but VMK seems to think people can determine which if the 6.8 Billion homes you live in by saying that. :sad2:

You know, I would think since it is safer to "travel in packs", VMK might approve of family being on VMK together and making that known. :thumbsup2 Kind of like, big brother is watching.

I,too will be watching this post as I often tell ppl that ask if "that is your real sister or mummy" and I will tell them yes...OMG! I'd better be careful now...I do know that I no longer say "Hi Mummy" in public areas, instead I use her character title :guilty: And while we are at it, how about real names? My sister's name is Ann so I say "Hi An" and my SIL name is Sherry so I say 'Hi Share"...etc., I guess that may be a bannable offense

I will also watch this, because my sister and I share the account (we have since the first second in the game). She doesn't play often, but when we're on many people ask "Is this the brother or sister?" and I answer them...

If people ask we say it but nobody ever says anything about it. We don't say it out of the blue though.

I think this is an interesting topic. I have seen this happen before in VMK, but I have never said anything like that myself. I have a couple of really good friends on VMK and while we don't play with our siblings, we all know how many brothers and sisters we each have.

I don't see why that would be a problem as long as other players do not know that those are related to their real names. I have one friend on VMK who has a name that cannot be shortened. One day when we were discussing finding a short name for him, I said that we should just call him Monkey Brains. Now we call him Key, short for Monkey Brains, but that is in no way similar to his actual VMK name. While I have no idea what his real name is, I don't see how calling him Key is very different from the way that you address your family on the game. Both situations involve calling a player by a name that does not match their VMK name. The important thing is that other players do not know real information about their fellow players.

I've seen people introduce me to their sisters, brothers, cousins, sons, and daughters. In no cases has their been action taken with anyone reporting or even anyone getting banned. I myself have introduced my sister to my fellow friends on VMK. Nothing has yet to happen and I dont plan on anything ever happening.

Since I cannot call you sister anymore I will have to think of a new title for you.........................Dumbo, yep that works. :rotfl2:

Wow, this thread is interesting. I have never thought of it before. I have a lot of family members that play - my sons, my mother, my father, my sister, my nieces, etc. I've ALWAYS introduced them to my friends as "my sister, Palmnut" for example and never thought anything of it. I want my friends to get to know my family on VMK. Guess I'll continue doing it until I receive a warning.

Well if VMK was really concerned about this issue, they never would have added the words "brother" and "sister" to the dictionary, so I wouldn't worry about it. :upsidedow

I was told by a CL that it is ok to say that it's a brother, sister, etc. Now get this, I was also told that it's ok to say that you are going to Disneyland!! SO...you can't say you live on the East Coast but you can say that you are going to Disneyland tomorrow? Riddle me that one Batman.

The logic on some of these things is too odd.

Hmm.. my hubby and I both play on VMK, and we both have small references to each other in our signatures. We've had VMK staff (not hosts) tell us we look cute (as in our outfits), but they've never said a thing about our signatures. My little sister also plays and we always say "Hi sister" and have yet to run into any trouble. It's great because sometimes it's the only way my sister and I can talk during the week. Definitely going to have to follow this thread and hope that this doesn't change things :(
