We are trying to find a new cell phone provider. For some reason Alltel has the market cornered around here. We just heard that Verison has bought Cellular One and will be upgrading their towers and soon will have service in our town. We have not been happy with Alltel customer service for a long time now and we wonder if Verison is ok. Whats your thoughts on them? Is their service good. etc?

Wilgus, mother, Travis and I all use Verizon. So far no complaints. We've had it for about 3 years now. I'm sure they have their share of problems like any other company, though.

Ann;
We used to have AT&T for years and their service really went down the drain in my area, I just switched to Verizon a month ago and I love it, the quality is much better and I like the plan too. They have a 15 day trial guarantee, you can try them and if you don't like it, return the phones and you owe them nothing.

I have nothing but good things to say about Verizon! I highly recommend them if there is an adequate signal in your area!

I love my Verizon cell..I definitely recommend it!
The only problem I had was while visiting Kentucky and Indiana for colleges as well as while i was in WDW I had problems finding reception in some areas.

Ann, I have Verizon...it is awesome. I have a mega plan that gives me like 2500 minutes a month and mobile to mobil, plus free nights after 9pm and weekends...and my DD and I share it. I love it. Only once did I get raked...it is extensive, but there a a few tiny pockets that are out of range (really very little out of area places) Kalamazoo, MI is one of them though, and I paid $30 in calls home from there...lol. Live and learn. The entire east coast from Maine to tip of Key West FL is covered though...

I reccomend them highly!!

I've had Verizon for 6 years and never had a problem. I upgraded my service in Sept when I got a cell phone for my son. We share our minutes and have never even come close to using them all every month. We have free nationwide long distance and free roaming in the 48 states. We travel countrywide and so far have been able to get a signal everywhere, even in the desert between LA and Vegas. The free long distance is great as I call everyone on my cell and have never gone over my flat rate. My business associate has Cingular and can't even get a signal in his own house! I highly recommend Verizon.

I have Verizon for my cellular service, and just switched from local digital choice to America's Choce just before DIS-CON. I was surprised, though, to get roaming charges for Melbourne, Florida (I was staying with my mom in Cocoa for a few days)!

The January issue of Consumer Reports magazine has several articles about cellular service, and Verizon came out on top for customer satisfaction.

I have Verzion and am happy with it one thing you need to make sure you do is update your roaming asreas every week oh so. it's a free call and you do it by dialing *228 on cell phone. I used mine at Disney and had no problems. My service worked in Kzoo. without roaming so whoever had roaming I'd be calling Verzion and asking for a refund.

Heres my post about Verizon. Thanks everybody for your help. :)

We were originally with GTE Mobilnet. When Alltel bought them out in NE Ohio, we were automagically switched. Their customer service reps leave a lot to be desired. When my wife's phone died with 9 months left on our contract, the Alltel rep told me that I would have to pay full price for a new phone. He didn't give me the option to extend her contract to get a break on the price of the phone. So I bought a replacement on ebay. When I went to a different office to have the phone programmed, they asked me why I didn't just extend my contract and get a new phone for free. Aaaargh.

I switched to Verizon a couple of years ago (just prior to DIScon 2001). I have had great service. To top it all off, our company has a corporate deal with Verizon that gives me a discount off of rack rates. So I switched to Americas Choice 300 and can hardly wait until Sue's contract with Alltel is up so that she can share my Verizon minutes (and great customer service).

I was unaware of the *228 thingie. I'll have to give that a try.
