I'm hoping someone can help me figure out the best way to plan this vacation. It's 9/10/10-9/19/10.

Currently, we are booked at Pop Century on the bounce back from last year. This entitles us to 1-TS, 1-CS, and 1-SNACK per day while we are there. Typically, we arrive at MCO, use ME and onsite the entire trip until WDW delivers us back to MCO. We love it! This year our flight is getting us to MCO @ 4:15 pm so our first day is a DTD day with T-REX as DD is DYING (my drama queen) to eat there. No sense wasting a park ticket that late in the afternoon right?

Well this year, our HP fan is insisting we visit Universal so I have fit it into our plans. So we are visiting US on 9/11 and 9/12 then starting our WDW marathon. But now I am trying to figure out the best route to save time and $$...like they can go hand in hand while on vacation...lol!

I thought about renting a car ($88.00) through national picking it up at Swan and Dolphin on 9/11 @ 8am and returning it on 9/13 @8am. But it seems senseless to be paying rack rate for POP ($90) since we aren't going to be there at all-not even for the DDP. We will be eating at Universal, returning to POP to basically sleep and that's it.

So I am thinking about modifying our current ressie with the DDP for an arrival of 9/13/10. Booking a room discount for a room at POP on 9/10 so we can still utilize ME to POP, still do T-rex and DTD on 9/10/10. Renting a car on 9/11 and booking a room near Universal for two days ( I seen a couple of hotels with shuttle service to US for a lot less...so no parking fee at US or rack rate at POP) and then checking back into WDW on 9/13/10 for our WDW time with WDW delivering us via ME to MCO on 9/19/10.

My questions are....
A) Is it worth the hassle? Checking in/out three different times during a 10 day vacation.

B)Would you stay at POP for two days just to sleep or book a partner hotel near US and utilize the free shuttle?

C) What off-site hotel would you recommend as there are several on the Universal site that are cheaper than POP Century.

D) Is there a cheaper way from POP to Universal and back to POP than $88.00 for three ppl for 2 days?

E) How much is parking at Universal?

It was so much easier to plan a vacation when she was little and just wanted to see Mickey Mouse!

Thanks to all for your help!

We are doing a split next year and are staying 2 or 3 nights on site at Universal ,then 6 or 7 nights at Pop!!The biggest problem I am having is figuring out the best route to go for transportation!!! The on site resorts don't have Food courts and the sit down restaurants are EXPENSIVE!!!!My DD wants to rent a car or van but the cost is high and then you have to pay to park on site resort!!!!She does NOT want to stay OFF SITE!!!!If you go to the universal resorts sight they do have several off site hotels listed !!!

What I am doing, is, first reservation Hotel Only 1 nite POP then DTD. Second reservation 9 days Pop WDW with DP, and one day in the middle , Universal, 2 parks fast pass for the day , Mears or a Taxi (cost 80 dollars round trip ), and save all the hassle of changing hotels, and bags and time, plus Universal closes at 8pm so I can go back and go to EHM at WDW, also I can sleep on Pop and be ready to go to Rope Drop next day.:cool1:

Having done both, I would do US/IOA at the end of your trip and plan to stay on-site. If you stay on-site one night you'll get two days of unlimited express pass use (check in day and check out day). That means little to no waiting in lines.

The first time we did a split stay we did US/IOA first and then went to WDW. For the rest of the week all I heard was how lame WDW was and how much the kids hated standing in lines (and we were there during the off season when the lines weren't bad at all).

I agree! We will be there at the exact same time, doing a split trip between POP and Universal (September 9-19th!). We're staying at POP until the 14th then switching over to the dark side for the remainder of our trip and enjoying the much calmer environment of Universal.

If you do end up staying at POP the whole time, remember that you can use your dining credits on other days of your trip and they don't have to be used on each individual day. Maybe use the extra credits to eat at a Signature restaurant or book a dinner show or meal in the castle?

So if you stay onsite for 2 nights you would get tickets for day of arrival and next day and day you check out ?? Would that be a 3 day pass or a 2 day???

The on-site hotels for Universal looked very expensive. Any suggestions for reasonable but nice hotels? If anyone knows of one with a good bed, that is even better. I have a bad back. Thanks!

Here's what we did this January -- we hired a town car and did a 3-way trip! It was awesome, they picked us up at the airport, and then we had a 30 minute grocery stop. We got everything we could possibly want, and then they dropped us at POR. Three days later, we were promptly met by a driver and driven to Universal. We spent another three days there, then our driver was waiting for us when we went out to meet him. He took us back to the airport, and it could not have been easier! Once you pick up your luggage, they handle it for you, so you can relax and enjoy the ride.

A word about onsite dining at Universal -- there is a food court at City Walk -- it has Burger King, Moes, and an asian place -- very reasonably priced for theme park food. I let my son choose our Thanksgiving Dinner -- willing to pay for whatever he wanted -- and I ended up having a Whopper and fries!

Your room key works as your FOTL pass, your ticket is a separate issue. The room key is printed with your dates of stay, as long as it is still one of those dates, it works. If you plan to be in the Parks two days, you need a two-day ticket. If it's 3 days, you need a 3-day ticket.

I completely agree with the PPs who suggested completing your WDW time before going to Universal. If you have FOTL access in Uni, you are going to be miserable waiting in the lines at WDW. You will also be spoiled because the onsite hotels are closer to the Parks, and it just has a more relaxed atmosphere -- you don't have to go commando since you are able to go express in the lines. Not to mention the fact that all the onsite Uni hotels are much nicer than Pop...not a slam against Pop, but the Uni hotels are Loew's, which is a completely different quality than a Disney value.

How far is City Walk from The Royal Pacific Resort ?? What are the modes of transportation like ??

You can take a 5 minute boat ride, or a 7 minute walk. There is also a bus, but I've never taken it so I can't attest to the length or what it's like. The boat ride is very pleasant, they check any bags as you get on the boat, and you seat yourself and you're off pretty quickly. The boats dock in the middle of City Walk, slightly closer to the Studios than IOA. The walk is extremely pleasant, with lots of beautiful landscaping. It also goes along the waterway, so you may see the boat! A guard will check your bags as you enter CityWalk. The walkway terminates at Margaritaville, and then you are on CityWalk!

Oh! And if you choose there are also pedi-cabs that will take you between RPR and CityWalk. They work for tips, and it's also a pretty quick way to get around.

What are pedi cabs ??? I really like the idea of doing universal at the end !!

If you're looking for a comfy hotel with a shuttle, Hyatt Place Universal is just across the street. They have really comfy beds, large screen tvs, free wi-fi, fridge, contintental breakfast, and a shuttle twice in the morning and twice in the evening. It also walking distance, about 15 minutes to Citywalk, and $5 for one way cab. We got it on Priceline for $30/night, but I believe it is about $70/nt regular.

Okay so this is my idea. We are arriving the Friday after Thanksgiving. We will take Magical Express to POP and check in for 8nights. On Wednesday we will pack an overnight bag and take a cab to Royal Pacific and check in for one night. This will allow us to have Express pass for Wednesday and Thursday. We will return to POP on Thursday night via cab and spend our last full day at the MK. On Saturday we will check-out of POP and take ME to MCO. I don't know if we will do the Disney Dining Plan this time since we won't be there for two full days. However, if Free Dining is offered we will for sure.

Sounds like a decent plan. The main thing is get the ground transportation taken care of and it sounds like you have that already worked out. :thumbsup2
