Do you use the recommended amount of product? Theoretically, I should be using 16 pumps, but my hair is totally saturated and dripping after only about 6-7 pumps. What possible benefit could there be to using more when your hair is already dripping? My guess is the more you use, the more you buy which means more money for Chaz Dean.

In any case, I bought the Almond Mint a couple of years ago and wasn't impressed. I sent in back to QVC for a refund. Last week I decided to try the Lavender which is a volumizing formula and I LOVE it! My hair has never looked so healthy and bouncy. I am very pleasantly surprised at the results. I don't even need to use mousse anymore!

What are your experiences with Wen?

I've been using WEN off and on for a while. Chaz has changed his recommendation to doing a wash, rinse and repeat versus the original use all the pumps in one wash. I found, with my hair, if I skimped on product, my hair would not get clean. I use the gallons, and I use 3 pumps. Each pump is about 1/4-1/3 of a cup. One on top, one in the middle and one in the back. I don't do the wash, rinse, repeat normally, but I did try it the other day. It worked pretty well.

I don't know if you know this, but he has started selling a mousse. I am normally a no extra product gal, but this mousse is my holy grail if I am air drying and wearing my hair naturally wavy. It's not sticky or stiff like so many mousses. I love the stuff!!

My hair is not quite shoulder length. I use 2-2.5 pumps on the first wash, then 1-1.5 for the second wash.

Out of what size bottle? The pump amounts differ depending on the size of the bottle.
Good point, I didn't even think of that. I have the 32-oz. bottle.

I never do a second wash. Do you think it makes a difference?

....a few months ago I decided to try the Almond/Mint (?) one....ewwwww, it made my hair GROSS!!! Sent it back and it took a really long time to get my refund....

Where did you buy it? I have been wanting to try this for a while but am hesitant to spent the money...

Oh, I think 16 pumps from a 32 oz. bottle is WAY too much. I'd probably do about the 6-7 you are doing. You could try doing one less pump each time you wash your hair to see how little you can get away with. I do know that a lot of people didn't like WEN and said it didn't get their hair clean, only to find out they weren't using enough product. You definitely need to use a good amount to get the best results.

I've always been interested in this product. How do you decide what you need? I have big BIG curly hair. Well, I had big curly hair until I moved to the outer layer of hell and it has sucked all moisutre out of my hair. I never thought I'd miss my 70s afro hair in the middle of summer. Now it kinda just looks like a bonzai tree.

So how do you decide on the products best for your hair?

QVC has the best deals on WEN. I highly recommend the Lavender for first time users. It seems to be the best all-around one for everyone.

I buy it from QVC. You have 30 days to return it, no questions asked, even if the bottles are almost empty. They have 6 different formulas, I believe.

Thanks! I feel better knowing I can return it if need be. :)

Tina,

So, is your hair dry and coarse and curly? If so, you might need the Fig. It's what's recommended for that hair type. Mine is frizzy and wavy, full of wiry colored gray hair. ETA: It's not very coarse and dry, so the Fig is too heavy for my hair. I love the Lavendar. It's a good all-purpose cleanser, but it not be moisturizing enough for your hair. You can read about the different cleansers here - http://chazdean.com/c-2-cleanse.aspx

This might be a good one for you to try with Fig, Lavender and Sweet Almond Mint. They are 6 oz. bottles, so they won't go far, but you aren't making a huge $$ commitment if you hate the product.

You might really, really like the mousse. I am using the pomegranate mousse, and I do think that it adds some extra moisture to my hair, without the normal sticky and crunchy hair you get when you use mousse. I put it on my hair, let it air dry and then kind of scrunch it to break up the waves a little. I know it's pricey, but it's not like any other mousse I've ever used.

Yes, my hair is dry like desert dry. I use redken sulfate free conditioner for curly hair and it's thicker than any body cream. I use ALOT of it.

This sounds really snobby but I have no problem with the costs of hair products if it's good stuff. I use Sebastian Lotion #9 and the big bottle is a litlte over $40 and I buy one of those about every 3 months. I use this with spray hair gel. I had the perfect formula when I lived in normal territory but now no clue. I'm almost thinking about volumizing just because I miss my big hair!

I think it's good stuff, but I don't use it 100% of the time. I have to switch things up with my hair, much to my husband's dismay. It's like a hair salon in my shower! Haha! I really suggest a combo kit, but I'm worried if you have a lot of hair the 6oz. bottles won't give you enough to really try it out. If you want to try just one, I really think you need the Fig given everything you said about your hair. I'm afraid the Lavender wouldn't be moisturizing enough. But, it's worth a try! The other thing I do is after I finish rinsing my hair, I add about a nickel's worth of cleanser back into my hair and then squeeze out the excess water with a microfiber towel before I get out of the shower.

For those of you that want the benefits of wen w/o paying the price try another product called hair one. It's 1/2 the price & amazing. I have very curly hair & have always had issues with it being dry but no longer. I get it via amazon.

Also, you can go to trywen.com and get the trial kit which is one month's supply for $29.95 and it has a 60-day money back guarantee.

It's a 5-piece kit and it looks to be a good deal. Free shipping too!
