Hi there!

I'm thilled to continue to participate in these boards - I can't IMAGINE how disorganized and EXPENSIVE my upcoming vacation would have been without all of you great people!!

I'm planning on shipping a box down to my resort (Port Orleans) with non-perishable items and a toaster oven (my DH and I love English-muffin pizzas made in the toaster oven!), along with a couple of cases of water (we're very picky with bottled water, and really want what we know we'd like! ).

It's obviously no problem getting the box to Disney, but how do I get the stuff home that needs to come home (like the toaster oven, and extra water if any)...I'll be shipping Fed Ex Ground down there because it's the most reasonable, but CAN I ship things home, or should I count on extra luggage room for the toaster oven!?

If I'm able to ship things home - does anyone have experience with this (ie COST...lol)???

Thanks so much - I look forward to hearing responses....

I don't think it would be any problem to ship things home. I'm not sure why you think you would have a problem. People ship things home from vacations all the time.

Am I missing something? Is there some reason you don't think you'd be able to ship something while on vacation as easily as you would from home?

AHA! Not so simple as it sounds...... I ship things to myself all the time as a very frequent traveller, and Disney is the only hotel chain which consistently lost or sent back my items. Here is the key:

Mark the package very clearly with your name as it appears on the reservation, your arrival date, and your confirmation number. The reservation system in use at Disney does not transfer over resrevations to the front desk until a few days before you arrive, so they may turn away your pkg if they do not have an arrival date.

Also call and check if they prefer the mailing address or the hotel address - I have been told that they differ and you may want to confirm which is the best address to use.

I once sent all of my vacation stuff to Port Orleans to meet me at the end of a long business trip, and Disney turned it away. All I had was black suits! (They did finally handle the situation and offered to pay for some vacation clothes!)

Sillygirl; Are you missing something? Nope - apparently I am! :D I have never been to Disney before - or on any vacation other than a cruise for that matter. I had never even HEARD of shipping things to myself until these boards (what a great idea!).
The reason I was asking was becauce to ship to TO Disney isn't a big deal - I'll take the box to my local Fed Ex drop off - but I was asking about getting the box back FROM Disney - I was wondering if it was a problem having them help with the shipping, and how that worked - I've just never done anything like this before!

Bavaria; Thanks for the heads up! I don't think a vacation with only black suits would be fun at ALL! Kinda made me think "what if the Men in Black went to Disney..." hehe

I think I've decided what to do so I don't have to worry about it! My biggest concern is the water situation. I read about the importance of having your own...We do have Tiffany Towncar who will be stopping for a 1/2 hour shopping trip, but I don't know the brands in Florida, and remember someone posting about the bottled water is still bottled IN Florida...so???? So what I did is bought a case of 6 gallon bottles of my local bottled water yesterday (some that I KNOW I'll like!!) and will just ship the case down - if it gets lost then I'm out $4.50 for the water and the shipping...if it doesn't then I have 6 gallons of water for the 10 days I'm there...and a sturdy box to ship things home in - IF I choose...

I'm just going to pack the food in my suitcases...

Thanks everyone for the responses!!

To ship stuff home.

Take your box to your resort gift shop and they will tape it shut for you. THey will either arrange the shipping for you or send you to the front desk to arrange the shipping. Keep in mind that is is probably not going to be as cheap as your orignial shipping. (Disney makes a mark up and they don't actually shop around for you!)

You may also want to consider some of the online grocery stores next time, which do delivery via FedEx. I saw this suggestion once, and checked out the prices, which seemed reasonable (about the cost of a cab ride for the shipping)

If you are doing a grocery shop, avoid Goodings in LBV and go to the Publix instead - the price difference is amazing! Have a good time.....

Oh, and re the black suits, what was worse was only having work shoes to wear!!!!

The online store idea is fabulous! :p

I'm gonna look into it today!! Thanks so much!!!
