Question for Parents - What Do You Wish You Had Done Differently

Spanked my oldest dd when she was younger, taken more baby pictures at the studios, gotten a babysitter every week to go out with dh, put dresses and did dds hair even though they hate it,
and the BIG one I would have enjoyed them more as baby-3yo, because OY! they are killing me now...anyone have any duct tape?

Just about everything. Mostly, though, work part time on weekends and stay home with them...even when they are in school. I regret using childcare. They would have benefited having their parents all the time.

Can we talk about how we wished our parents had raised us differently, or do you not have an hour to read it all?

I would have encouraged my daughter to get a part time job. I felt that getting good grades and playing on the school sports teams was a full time job. Now I see learning the true value of money spent is part of the over all education of our children. Spending mom and dads money is easy---spending your own hard earned money takes careful thought.

I'm sure there are many things I could have done better as a parent. But I have such a great son, I don't know what I could have changed that would have made him better. I suppose I have a really great son, in spite of myself.

Can't think of anything......they have turned out great!!
I'm very proud of them both :teeth:

Too close to the situation right now, lol. Ask me again in 10 years, I'm sure I'll have an answer for you then!

Honestly, for the past several days, I've been kicking myself for not getting DS some extra, outside help long ago with math. He's always struggled with that subject and, I was somehow able to 'flash card' him through grade period after grade period, always knowing the day would come though. :( It did. He failed algebra, which he shouldn't have been in anyway but, I feel like it's all my fault. He tries, he really does. He even volunteered to attend 6 wks summer school and, he went but, it obviously didn't help. :( Now, he's 'sentenced' to finish this 2nd quarter with only the help of 'coaches', (jr & sr. HS classmates) before they will consider letting him downgrade to an entry-level math course in the 3rd quarter.

Every parent hates to see their kid(s) struggle, be miserable, etc. I just wish I had done and could do more in this area. :(

DD will be 5 in Dec. Check back with me in a few years about how I handle her possibly skipping Kindergarten (going right to 1st grade from Pre-K)???

(So, who borrowed that 'Parent's Manual' last, anyway??) ;)

{{HUGS}} for Parents!! :smooth:
