OK, dumb question time. We are about to buy our first laptop, and will take it on our trip in 10 days. To save the $$ that an extra battery would cost, do most airplanes have auxilary plugs/cigarette lighter plugs? We are flying Southwest. I'm just not sure, since smoking hasn't been allowed on flights for a long time. Thanks! Diana

Not on any of the planes the DH has been on, and he's flown SWA a few times. He always has to make sure his lap top is fully charged before he leaves.

You also need it charged to get by security. They don't always make every person turn theirs on, but they could. So make sure it's charged even on the way home.

I have only been on one flight with the power adapters. :)

Perhaps you could find someone with the same machine and borrow a battery?

I took mine down to Disney with me in Aug. The plane down had the power jacks, but it is not a standred plug. Its designed for laptops only. I belive it was an Airbus, but I am not sure the exact kind. On the way home, the flight did not have a jack for the laptop.

Thanks everyone. I think we're going to order a Dell with an extra battery. Here's hoping it arrives before we leave! The guy that took the order thinks it will, anyway. Diana

Dancind, best of luck with your new laptop:D :D :D.

My DW forbids my use of ANY computer equipment while we're on vacation :jester: :jester: :jester: :jester: ...........
