DD10 middle school will be eliminating courses in art, music and drama to focus more on subjects that are on the MCAS - a comprehensive evaluation for Massachusetts public school students.

My question for homeschoolers is: can you recommend any homeschooling books, syllabi, etc on the topics of art, music and drama?

Thanks!

Our curriculum uses the Hillyer books and they are quite enjoyabe: "A Child's History of Art", "A Child's History of Painting", "A Child's History of Sculpture". If you want to give her hands on art projects you can buy the art program from Calvert School, it covers a lot and has video tape instruction. Make sure you visit art museums in your city or when travelling. For music I would contract out private lessons of some sort, or have her join a youth choir at a church. Try listening to classicla music when in the car as well.

It's a shame your school doesn't see the value of these things.

I haven't used this program yet but have heard good things about it and my kids will be attending a hands on class with the artist soon. I am very excited about it. It will cost me $22 for 3 days of classes and it is 2 1/2 hours of instruction per day. :cool1:

Wow I thought I was the only homeschooler who loves WDW. It's good to know there are more like me. Homeschooling for 16 yrs and have 11 more to go.
Trips to WDW are our favorite family fun thing to do.

First off disneydreamin--there are a lot of us out here. Do a search for Homeschool and you will find several threads.

As for the curriculums I would recomend Meet the Masters and Discovery Great Artists for art, Meet the Orchestra and Classics for Kids for music and as far as drama goes that is a little hard to pull off on your own so maybe looking into opportunities in your local community ed.

I also really like the "What your ...Grader Needs to Know" edited by E.D. Hirsch and they have some great sections on all of those topics. Good luck with it.

Sorry I offended some of you. It has been a while since Ive been on the boards and there never were any posts from homeschoolers before. I would have never done a search for other homeschoolers. I was just looking down the page and found several sites. I am not new to Disboards. I had to change my email address so decided to change my login name also so I started over. Again I'm sorry.

Hold up there disneydreamin-gang!

I think you took what disneymom3 was saying way wrong!

She posts a lot of homeschool info on the boards here, and I've never seen her be mean or spiteful.

I think she was just trying to include you, and catch you up!:flower3:

Please don't get your feelings hurt, or think you offended anyone. I just really don't think that's the case at all!

Thanks Brier!! and yes, Disneydreamin--I was not trying to reprimand you at all! I just hoped you would be able to find the rest of us. I see you did find one of the threads last night and I was so glad you had. THese threads tend to get buried fairly quickly so they would be easy to miss.:surfweb:

Hope to get to know you better soon!
