We're driving to Orlando from Illinois in two weeks. Has anybody been on
I-75 in southern Georgia lately? How rough is the long stretch of construction?

We drove it at the end of Oct and didn't have any problems at all. Good luck and drive safe

its just takes forever it seems like to drive it. May I suggest you making a specail stop in atlanta to see our new Aquarium. It's the worlds largest and it features 4 whale sharks. the largest fish in the ocean, it is quit awe inspiring.

Not sure what you mean by "rough". Most of the construction is about 50 miles from the Florida border. And then continues all the way to the border. I think I started cringing when I saw the "construction for the next 26 miles" sign. On that stretch, it really is rough. The lanes are uneven and not paved well. I have a bad neck and it hurts after we're through that. When you see the signs saying you are in a construction area and the speed limit goes down, follow it. Especially around Ashburn. You really don't want a $200 speeding ticket. In Georgia, if you get a bad enough ticket, you have to show up in court.

But the up side? They are producing a better Georgia!

Oops, should have been more clear. By "rough" I meant in terms of delays, and will it be a mind-numbing crawl for a long time.

I live in South Georgia and just travelled to WDW last week. There was no construction zone delays either way. Hope that helps.

But the previous poster was right, don't speed through Ashburn especially. I work in that court system and have seen fines recently upwards of $1000 and 12 months probation. Be careful!!

It can get rough with delays. If you are traveling when GA schools let out there can be a huge number of cars heading that way. Our drive before Thanksgiving (Tuesday after work) was an extra 2 hours long! If you are coming through on the 21st during evening rush hour it could get bad because a lot of schools are letting out that day for Christmas break. Between the Atlanta Perimeter (285) and I-675 it can get really backed up during evening rush hour. Once you get past Hudson Bridge it usually starts moving and the further out the better it gets.

Once past Macon you are pretty good until you get to lower Georgia but heavy volume and construction can lead to some nasty back ups. We got off at the closest exit and went down Hwy 41 for about 20 miles and then got back on. Much less stressful and no traffic but a few lights.
Pick up a GA map at a the Welcome center. Hwy 41 runs parallel with 75 but crosses over from the East side to West side a few times. It is usually within a mile or so of 75 at most times and many times you can see 75 from 41. Also the small towns usually have signs that will point you back to 75 when you want to get back on.

Best advice is to avoid Atlanta during either rush hours - however evening rush hour before a weekend or school break is awful!
