What is the longest amount of time you've ever left your cat(s) alone? We usually have someone come in every other day to feed them when we're on vacation. We'll be gone for 4 days this time and was wondering if that's too long for them to be alone. We have big food and water buckets for them, but I think I'd worry about them. What do you think?

Personally if I were going away for 4 days I'd have someone (a family member usually for us) stop by and spend some time with them.........feed them and clean their litter out at least every other day. Just to be sure.:D

Three days is about as long as I wouls let my Kitty be alone. When we are away, I have someone come over every other day.

Actually when I go away for a long weekend with my husband, someone usually checks on them. But my babies are spoiled. I know if both of us were gone for four days, I'd have someone check on them at least once.

Being on the high end of the Paranoia chain, I couldn't leave mine alone for more than one overnight.
I know they would be fine for longer, but I wouldn't.

Our cats all are outside cats, but when we are away, someone comes to check on them every day or every other day along with the other animals.
I also think that four days is a long time. I'm not sure if you have an inside or outside cat, but what if another animal came and ate it's food, or your cat spilled his or her water, then that means they may not have any for that amount of time.
If you can have someone check on your cat at least every other day, then that would be better.

I live in England and we have 2 cats that live outside and inside (depending on where they want to be at the time, though they spwnd time both inside and outside each day.) The longest we have left them was 15 days. During that time a friend came around each day to feed them and stroke them. We have a room at the back of the house that they can get into via a cat flap that they are fed in. If they are out at night in the morning thay are always asleep in the sofa in that room (the door into the main house from that room is closed at night because of the burgular alarm.) When we are away they can come and go as they please (like they do during the day when we are at work) and can let themselves into the one room in the house with their food etc in. We have done this a few times now and they seem to like this. We do this as we think they would prefer to keep to their usual routine instead of going to a catery. We also have 3 pet bunnies which my friend feeds at the same time. When we go to DLP in a few weeks the same friend will feed the animals for us again. This seems to work for us and our pets.
Just a side note, I believe in this country it is against the law to leave an animal alone for more than 2 nights.

Never longer than about 8 hours. When we go away, we have my mom come and check on him.

Hi

I live in Scotland and have 2 cats who are absolutely spolied by my DD14. When we go on holiday we have to send them to the local cattery - which is also the cat rescue centre - both our cats were rescued cats. They are so well looked after when they are there and when we collect them they are lovely and healthy looking - its like a holiday for them too. I couldn't leave mine for even 1 night because they are so spolied.

We've never left our cat alone for more than just 1 night, but my sister has left her cat for 4 days. They have a littermaid, so cleaning the litterbox isn't a problem and they just leave a couple bowls of water and food for him.

I've never left mine alone for more than a couple days, but if you have more than one cat, they shouldn't get lonely or anything.

4 days...After that My mom checks on them every other day but they are good at behaving when we are on vacation. They are 12 years old and LAZY so they don't do much more than sleep.

I would want someone to come in at least once during that 4-day period.

We have left her for up to 8 days. Neighbor checked on her once or twice. She was fine! We leave large bowls of dry food and large bowls of water.....................P

I have never left mine for two nights or more without someone checking on them. Even one night I don't like, but I'll do it. I think it just depends on what your cat(s) is used to. Mine, like many others here, are used to being spoiled, and I wouldn't want them without that human contact for that long of a time.

When we go on vacation, my one of my neices or nephews comes over every day to feed, litterbox, and check up on them. They will often stay over for a few days also. Sometimes a mini party takes place also.:teeth:
