Question for Cat Owners

My 14 yr old cat has suddenly decided to use other places in the house to use as a bathroom besides her litterbox. There has been no cat litter changes or anything like that. Any ideas why she might be doing this? Anyone else experience this with their cat? Thanks for your help!

Our cat started to do that also at one time. We went to the Vet. only to find out that he had stones or crystals in his urine and once he was on an antibiotic we switched his food to one for urinary health and he was all better.
There are different brands of this food, but we pretty much buy the kind in the supermarket rather then Science Diet.

I strongly feel that it may simply be a bladder infection or a urinary tract infection. That can easily be fixed with antibiotics. Please take your kitty to the vet for a check. My grandkitty did exactly the same this week.

It could be stones or crystals, as Sherri suggested, but that is most common in male cats. It could also be a symptom of feline diabetes. Is she also eating and drinking more?

The same problem with my cat and most often the reason is the litter box...he has gotten really picky about how often it is cleaned out!!!! He also has some urinary issues and is also on a special diet and occassional medications during a flare up!!!

I was thinking urinary tract infection too. My cat did that. So took a trip to the vet, and that's what it was. Hope you find out soon.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. She is on special urinary tract food but she also has seemed more hungry lately, not sure about drinking more. Definitely will call vet.

Most likely, it's her way of telling you something is wrong.

She may have tried in other teeny tiny cat ways...but cats really REALLY don't want to show weakness. A cat in pain is pretty tough to see.

At her age, with no major changes in her life, she needs a visit to the vet.
