Question for Beverly Lynn

I see you are the travel expert. Do you know if it is possible to buy a round trip ticket on USAir, with the flight down being 1st class and the return flight being coach. I would like to treat my kids, but on the return flight there will be two extra people with us, so I did want to spend the extra money for 1st class coming back.

The only way to do that is for the coach portion to be full fare, which won't be that much cheaper than first class. Basically, it's the same as buying two one way tickets, one in coach and one in first class.

If you have frequent flyer miles, you can check into upgrading just the outbound. Some programs allow that.

well....I am not Beverly...but I will give you my experiance!! I always do this...I buy a round trip ticket at reg rate...(for me it is always under 200)...and then with my points..(mileage).I always upgrade.....no problems what so ever! with AA it is 15,000 for and upgrade.......and they always hold my seat till I get the coupon.or voucher....

Thanks for the info, but I don't use frequent flyer miles, I have to pay. I know yuk!! But I am looking into converting my Amercian Express Rewards into the miles so maybe I can use them.

if you have enough miles they will let you upgrade but from a restricted fare you must be a chairmans preferred or gold member to use the 800 miles first class upgrade segment(for 10,000 miles you get 4 800 miles segment coupons to use for every 800 miles of air travel you need one of these. for isntance my air mileage from pit to mco is 834 I would need 2 of these per one way).....and if you are just a regular frequent traveler member then its 20,000 miles for a first class upgrade from a restricted fare! now if you have one of the y,y9,y8,B,yup or a BUP fares you can upgrade sometimes for free or for a minimal amount or with one of the ftp certificates. but these are higher fares to begin with and would really cost you quite a bit. right now most of usair first class is filled most of the flights because the high members of their ftp program are using all of their upgrade certificates on these flights. they are giving these to them left and right. if you know of anyone in the preferred status in the ftp program you can have them call and get you the first class up grade using one of their upgrades. they bend over backwards to appease these members.
