Question for Any/All DSLR Owners.

Even so, you shared the pictures with us from that one time---and now you've got all of us (especially us ladies who cart around 25 pounds of junk everyday without the camera ) looking for new lightweight options that may produce better results than our basic p&s cameras.

This is some of the thinking that got me to go from a Canon 30D to a Rebel Xsi. I usually skip a generation and with the release of the 50D it was time to upgrade, but the 50D just felt huge and heavy. The Rebel saves about 12 ounces, it's a start.

Now I have to see if I can live with a 55-250 instead of my 70-200, and maybe a 17-85 instead of my 24-105. The weight savings is considerable while the loss of image quality is not that great (as long as we can stop down the lenses). What keeps me from going to a P&S is "it's all about the sensor".

If you want a decent longer zoom that's still fast and high quality, you can consider the Tokina 50-135mm or the Sigma 50-150mm, both constant F2.8 zooms. My Pentax 50-135mm F2.8 is about half the weight of most 70-200mm F2.8 lenses (less, compared to Canon's brick) and I think it's a more usable focal length on crop-sensor bodies. Starting at 70mm is just too far away for "walk-around" usage IMHO. I'm often surprised that more people don't consider these lenses; they are about the same range as a 70-200mm on a full-frame body.

Lets be honest Ann. You are going to be soooo busy taking pictures with that D90 you will not think of a P&S. Maybe in future trips, but not this one.
