Question for AKL lovers

Thank you all. Great suggestions.

Another question: I read somewhere that most of the animals aren't out from 6 am to noon. Is that correct?

The giraffes eating and wandering the savannah was the only thing that made me miss rope drop. It was soooo beautiful to sit out on the balcony every morning and eat my pop tart.:)

Is it better to have a rental car to travel between parks/resorts when staying at AKL or to just rely on the busses? We've only ever stayed at monorail resorts.

We stayed in March our Spring Break and never ever had an issue with waiting on the bus. And we had our car too...but took the busses as well. At least one of us took a bus everyday.

Very important.

Keep your blinds closed if easily creeped out.

Our first trip, I didn't think about it.hopped out of shower... Only to find...an okapi, I think, literally staring at me.

DH didn't believe me..me being the mature lady that I am , I fell to the floor behind a bed, made him close the curtains.
He laughed all day when he saw that it actually was staring.

He never left our window, pretty much. Creepy. Pictures in page on of the TR in my sig.

This picture was taken about 9:30am. There were several animals out.

I think people are referring to the fact that in the morning is when they do their vet checks. The animals will be returning to theeir houses, but as the photo suggests, they don't go all at once. I remember doing "Lunch with the Animal Keepers" and the CM said that if you listen closely, sometimes you can hear the bell or whatever call they use. However, I've stayed at AKL about 7 times and listened almost every morning and haven't heard anything yet.

I asked about how long the animals in the savannah are outside, they are out 23 hrs a day, they go in for an hour break, but at different times.

Boma is a great place. We went for the first time in June.

The night vision goggles.

The pool at Kidani is fun, games and entertainment in the afternoons.

The lobby at Jambo is great to walk around too.

Hi everyone! I'm totally new - this will be myself and my two children's (8 year old DD and 14 year old DS) first trip for Disney. I'm a single mom and have had to save up for a while to do this so I'm so excited! Staying at AKL! :)

I wanted to know the best rooms to request (best view of animals and most animals like giraffes) and how do I go about doing that? I booked online directly through Disney, so I do not have a travel agent. Should I call the resort directly?

I booked a Savannah view room, but it seems like their are wings and things I need to be worried about.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!! :)

First of all, Aprilblues24, WELCOME to the DIS! :welcome:

I will let one of the AKL experts give their advice on where to request. However:

Should I call the resort directly?

There is no way to call the resort directly. Once you decide where you want to request, call the main reservations number 407-934-7639 and have them add your requests to your reservation.

Congrats on your trip to AKL!!:thumbsup2

Also, this thread is great for all things AKL.

Thank you again.

I have an ADR at Boma for dinner on the first night. We will arrive at around 11:30 and are staying club level, so I figured check in, grab a quick snack and off to MK. (First ride is always the carousel.) I think if we leave MK around 7 pm, we should have some time to wander around outside before dinner at 8:30.

I have also scheduled the sunrise safari for later in the week. Can't wait for that!!

The culinary tour was nice. You are walked through the Boma buffet where they give you a sample or 2 (and a Zebra Dome). We actually decided to make a last minute ADR there because of the tour. Then you are brought over to Jiko where they let you sample the bread service that they offer, which has some really tastey spreads.

The Sunrise Safari was pretty nice. We did it this past October. You totally see more on KS pre-park opening than you do durring the day. We saw the lions, jaguars and hogs all active which is something that may be hard to come by durring the day.

If your party is all over the age of 8, and you can afford the price tag ($190 per person, which in the end we found to be worth every penny and then some), the Wanyama Safari which is only available to AKL guests was, in our opinion, the best Disney experience we have had.

hmmm - I LOVE AKL!

-sitting on my balcony eating a falafel sandwich from Mara - watching the animals.
Sanaa - get a table by the windows to get a view of the animals - especially great at 6:00pm which was feeding time when we went.
-chatting with the CMs, marshmallow roast in the evenings.
-night vision goggles.
-Sunrise Safari.

These are the things I have really enjoyed or are on the list of things to do next visit!

You will get great infomation about the AKL on this thread:

Ask any question and they will have an answer.

I would request the Sunset Savanna--plenty of animals including giraffes and zebras.

Hope you have a magical stay at the AKL. pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:
