Question concerning dinning plan

My family and I will be visiting 5/15-25 2011 and we are planning to stay at the YC. In the past I have waited to book the trip until the AP dicounts are posted, however I want to do dinner reservation on the 180th day. My question is do I reserve at rack rate in order to be able to make dinner reservations and then call back when the AP rates are posted? I have never had difficulty getting the passholder's discount and do not want to create more of a headache. Is the deposit still $200.00 and the balance due 42 days before check in? Counting down the days, this past March has been a year since I've been down.

yes, you can book and later apply the AP rate. deposit for packages is $200.

yes you can book now, & change it later - you'll have to call reservations to change it when the AP rates come out, but this can be done. The deposit is $200, but the balance is due 45 days before check in, not 42.

The above does work, you can also (if you decide) to wait to book your trip until the normal dates, and just book your dining at 180 days before date of dining. You do not need a resort reservation to book dining reservations, you only need the resort reservation to take advantage of 180+10.

Of course, depending on where you want to eat, 180+10 may be required to get a slot (*points at O'Hana, Le Cellier, CRT, etc)

I don't see that anyone said anything about the spelling error - it appears Cafeen's bold print is meant to emphasize the date, not the spelling.

You do not need a resort reservation to make dining reservations. There are only two reasons why you might want one:

1) You want to book your entire trip's worth of reservations, up to 10 days, on the 180-day mark from the first day of your reservation. Disney resort guests are permitted to do this. If you are not a Disney resort guest at that time, you can book reservations 180 days from the day you wish to dine only, which means signing on or calling each day that is 180 days from each day of your vacation.

2) You will book a room reservation that includes a dining plan, and you want to book CRT or a dinner show without having to pay for those restaurants in full at the time you book.

Otherwise, you can wait to make a room reservation.

Yup, sorry about that. Didn't even notice it. Normally I add a line about 180 days before the check-in date to reference the difference between on-site and off-site (or no reservations yet) . That may have made the intentions a bit more clear.
