This is a mission, if you choose to accept it.. ( picture Mission IMpossible theme music here)

I am usually on the Community board, but I see so many fun new faces here, just wanted to say hi... and ask/offer this question/challenge here.

I am in charge of my daughters kindergarten Valentines Day craft project.. however there is a limited budget...

So, I dug out all my kid crafty stuff... and this is what I have

(Picture this as a Ready, Set, Cook episode, instead Ready Set craft...)

I want to make something for 20 kids (mixture boys/girls) and this is what was in my basement

1 Box of 1000 craft sticks
30 (give or take a few) assorted pieces of wallpaper, different designs/colors

40 plus sets of medium googly eyes

about 25 pom poms different sizes/colors
assorted small sheets of tissue paper... (mostly green/purple/pink, but other colors.. some are crinkled, but usable depending on the craft)

decent amount of fun foam shapes... geometric patterns, and pastel colors.

1 bag of mother of pearl sequins
2 bags of silver sequins
and one bag of black tri beads... plus a small bag of earring backs..

one thing of yarn, and about 20 pieces of pre strung yarn, ready for lacing.. (with the end taped up)

Also some precut 1-2 inches long pieces of yarn, blue, green and red.

One spool of glow in the dark gimp
and one spool of 1 - 1/2 " wide white ribbon....

And some odd shapes of felt left.

What would you make..

The children have markers, crayons, glue, but I can bring some.
There is also a time limit...

What could you make?

Not adding anything to the list...

Ok, now what comes to mind...consider this a train of thought process and add as you all see fit!

Valentine's Day, especially with kids that young, a rather traditional focus on the red, pink and white elements. Also hearts would be appropriate.

Given the skill level of kindergartners and the time limit, some prior preparation would be in order.

Do you have enough wallpaper in colors/prints that would work with the Valentines color theme to cut decent sized hearts out?

I'm thinking if you do then you could perhaps use the felt and craft foam to make background (such as a blue or black circle or oval) for the google eyes to be glued on. Also perhaps a felt or craft foam mouth.

If you use craft foam bits for the eyes and mouth is there enough felt (almost any color) to make some sort of hat shape that might sit on one side of the heart (I'm picturing this as a point down face) If so then for the boys they could put a pom pom at the top of the hat like a stocking cap (thinking Winter here) and a pre-tied bow from the white ribbon for the girls?

All of this could be attached to a craft stick so you could hold it like a puppet.

Ok, any more ideas out there? This is what came to me just working through the list and trying to limit the amount of preparation.

Deb

thanks Deb...

if this helps the foam pieces are actually Heart ones mixed in there with the squares, circles, triangles.. fished all the heart ones out...

The wallpaper pieces are mostly about 8-10 round circles in primarly floral patterns with some dark colors (blues/greens) as the odd ones...

I was also thinking about bookmarks, and tissue paper carnations.. (I found some 10 pipecleaners in the bottom of the box)

Bookmarks.. take the white ribbon and cut about a 3- 5 inch strip with a little cut away in each end.. make 20 of those...

then cut three different sizes of heart One small, medium and large out of the wall paper samples...

Start with the small heart at top of ribbon, then medium heart, then big heart... they can glue the samples on the ribbon... once they are finished that.. they can add the fun foam, sequins on the paper samples...

tie a red yarn bow on the top!

How does that sound? All of it will be precut..

Cindy how ya doing, don't see you over here much! This is where I seem to hang out most now
anyway have you thought about using the craft sticks to make picture frames? you can have the kids decorate them with almost all the stuff ou have, foam shapes work great add some of the sequins and sprinkle some glitter on it kids love glitter!Or cut the tissue up in to small pieces and have them crunch them up and then glue on to the sticks. You could have them draw a picture of their family that would fit the frame. or paint their hands with red paint and press it on paper to frame.

Keep in mind that my children are grown and that my grandchild is not old enough for craft projects so I am a bait rusty. Only 2 things came to mind. Using the pre paste as glue, you could use two pieces of wallpaper back to back to make personal place mats. They could be decorated in some way with some of the other things you have. They could even be in the shape of a heart with a small heart as a coaster.
My second idea would be a wall hanging. Make 3 frames with the craft sticks. Make a braid with yarn and glue the three frames about an inch or so apart. Anything could go in the frames. They could make their own drawling or a photo or maybe just a design using some of the other things you have. Not extremely creative but it might spark something else.

I would not have thought of a coaster... and Spinning fun ideas as well...
