My question involves the Tinkerbell pins from the YOMD promotion that were given by CM's to individuals caught doing good deeds.

My daughter received one at the beginning of our summer trip and when other CM's saw it (at least 2 others), each made a point to tell her and/or us that the pin will one day pay for her college, don't trade it b/c it is worth a lot of money, etc. Over the span of our trip, my daughter then received 2 more so I began to doubt their value other than sentimental.

While the pins are adorable and hold special memories from our trip, I found that they are very common and therefore hold no significant monetary value. Any ideas as to why CM's tell us they'd be worth a fortune one day?

Some pins do escalate quickly in value while others not so much. I think your experiance is one where a CM was trying to add a little more value to the pin other than the sentimental to maybe make it seem like a valube gift. She got three of them in one trip is no small fact. She must be a great kid yand you must be one pround parent... Congratulations to both of you!!!

Just curious which pin that is.
It isn't Pin 49889: Where Dreams Come True - Tinker Bell Pixie Dust - 2 Pin Pack, is it? :confused3 (Or Pin 50070: Where Dreams Come True - Tinker Bell Pixie Dust - 2 Pin Set - One Pin Only.)

When i was a cast member we were given the pins that came two in a pack, and we were to give a guest both of those pins. One for the person receiving it and one for that person to give to another guest. The idea was to keep one and give the other one to another guest so that you both may interact with each other and "Spread the Magic". The pins also say "Exclusive Pixie Dust Pin" on the back. I have one at home.

Im not sure if that answers your question, but i hope it helps.

I was just wondering if that was the pins the OP was referring to.
One day at Epcot I had the pleasure of giving away at least a few dozen of those duo pin packs. :cheer2: pixiedust: Loved it! :goodvibes
Hard to say how many of those pins were made. :faint:
Of course any of us pin people who have been around awhile can name numerous pins that were extremely common at one time and not seen much now. (Finally, good grief.)
But even intact and decades later I cannot imagine those pins having any kind of high value. That's why I was wondering which pin it was someone was referring to.
There have been so many times over the years a CM has mentioned to me a pin being worth so much, sometimes even saying on Ebay, and not to trade it off. :rolleyes2 However the pin may be worth $2 - $5, if you wanted to put a value on it, and quite often does not even have a good trade ratio on Pinpics.
Pin collectors have to be pin collectors because they like the item. Pins are not a good long term investment.
Most of us would LOVE to have the money back that we spent on some pins.
More often than not a pin decreases in value. Not increases. There are some exceptions. But not overall.
And no offense to any CM, but if one tells you a pin is worth a lot, or will be, take it with a grain of salt. I have been told that numerous times and can't recall trading for any of high $ value.
Their value has to be something to you besides $. And I have many like that. princess:

I just went through DD's pin binder and found the Tink pins. I was totally off in the number she received. While she did receive 2-3 from CM's she traded for a few more (which I don't think CM's were supposed to do but, I digress).

Anyways, the pins all say "Where dreams come true!" on the front and "Where dreams come ture", Exclusive Pixie Dust Pin on the back. There are no identifying numbers on them that I could find--we didn't keep the card backings but I don't think they were on there either.

The pins have different colored (3-white, 2-royal blue, 2-aqua, 4-turquoise/darker aqua), sparkly backgrounds with Tink in varying positions on them and she is sprinkling pixie dust.

Guessing they are:
Pin 49889: Where Dreams Come True - Tinker Bell Pixie Dust - 2 Pin Pack
Pin 54278: Where Dreams Come True -Pixie Dust Version 2 (2 Pin Pack)
Pin 55125: Where Dreams Come True -Pixie Dust Version 3 (2 Pin Pack)
Pin 58482: Where Dreams Come True - Pixie Dust Pin (2 Pin Set) Version 4

Not to discount these pins personal worth (such as memories and joy). However I would not hold on the hopes of a future education being paid for due to these pins. ;)
I think it is just a matter of a CM repeating what they have been told by someone else, or their perception.
My guess if someone says something like that they are not a pin collector and just going by what someone else has told them. And that person could have been pulling their leg. :confused3
They may have meant value to them since the pins could not be purchased. Those were truly awards or gifts. And of course I can't imagine a CM awarding any pin to a guest that did not feel was worthy of a gift. princess: Priceless in memories, I guess. ;)
Sadly, I once saw a kid awarded a very good pin by a CM, only for the kid to turn and ask their mother how much it will bring on Ebay. :faint:
I think also if the CM let's them know it may be worth something, then they are not so easy to just trade it off to the next CM lanyard. :confused3

I wish the CM was correct, I have all four of the pixie dust pins on original card plus extras not on the original card. I would love to pay for my future kids college education with a free pin but I think I have a better chance of winning the lotto.

CM's are notorious for being a fountain of mis-information.

Let's see, some of my favorite comments from my trip from last week:

A cm tried to tell me how special the new cheerleader pins were. She told me they were employee pins and could only be obtained by trading with cast members, which is so not true. Two days later I saw them all for sell in mystery packs at one of the pin trading stores. Plus I saw tons of cheerleading pins on lanyards the whole trip so I am thinking they are going to be a pretty common series.

I traded for a Figment head pin from a cast member. The cast member then told me the pin was very special, very old, and worth a lot of money. He told me to not lose it and put it in a secret place because it was a really old cast lanyard pin. Yes it was so rare I was able to find three more that trip ;-)

I noticed a Star Wars pin on a cast member lanyard and pointed out that it was a nice pin but technically not a Disney pin. The CM told me Disney bought the right to Star Wars so all Star Wars pins are Disney pins. Hmmm...ok. The pin did not have the Disney Copyright stamped on the back. Plus I specifically remember buying the pin at *Walmart when the first prequel came out a long time ago in a far off galaxy. *St. Louis Walmarts have never sold Disney pins. I know some Florida Wal-marts do but not Missouri ones.
