Question about XBox 360 Red Circle of Death

DH is getting ready to send his in. For those who have send theirs in, did you return it in the original box or did you pack it another box? Thanks!!

They just sent us shipping labels and we just put in another box and sent it.

Gee whiz. And I thought this issue was mostly dead and gone.

Microsoft sent us another box to ship it in. But I don't think we still had the original box.

See...now I'm confussed. The customer service guys DH talked to...lets just say of the 3, English wasn't their 1st language...so it took all three calls just to get the service order number correct. The only other thing DH could understand from the 3rd guy was print off the label and it would be picked up in a couple of days. No mention of how to pack it or nothing that was understood as those directions.

I have printed the shipping label and it the paper that prints with it says to take the package to UPS, but the 3rd guy said that UPS would pick it up at our home. We are so confussed.

DH the original box for everygame system we own. This includes the PSP and all five of the different styles of gameboys we have. We even have the original boxes with the instruction guides to most all of the very first games we bought for the Nintendo system why back in the 90's when we first got it. And we still own every style of Nintendo sysytem that they came out with. That's just the way my hubby rolls with it....the loveable game geek, dork, nerd, and dweeb, that he is. And DS14 is following in his fathers footsteps.

We did our repair entirely through the web site. No need to call or anything. You print the shipping label, box it up and send it off with UPS. It said not to use the original box to send it back in as you will not get the box you sent it in back when it is returned to you.

This happend to ours last year. I did everything on-line, they mailed me the package/box with shipping stickers and everything and with instructions on how to package it up and remove the hard drive. We took it to UPS and received it back fairly quickly, I don't remember how long it took but it wasn't long at all. I really expected a big problem to deal with but it was very easy. They are aware of the problem and are quick to fix it.

To update, Sent ours in last wed and got it back this morning.Quick service and it works great and my kids are in heaven and i won't be seeing them for the next 24 hours.LOL

my boys sent theirs in, quick turnaround. But for the the OP asked, don't bother paying someone for those fixes. Sometimes they can work but all you have to do is google and you will find the information out there. I know my boys (the oldest is my techno-geek) belong to various game sites that focus on xbox and some of the games. They went through a few of the common "fixes" that worked for a week and then the RROD reappeared. I think they were worried that the warranty had expired. A friend from another site said the MS was having huge issues (still) with this and extended the warranty. Also like one of the pp's mentioned, you will more than like lose saved data on the hard drive but if you bought stuff with live points, it should be linked to your name and you should be able to just get it again without having to use more points.

Curious as to what game your child was playing when this happened. Our boys borrowed call of duty 4 from a friend and middle DS was playing it when it went out. They did a bit of research and this seemed to happen quite a bit with this game. Seems like some of the "intense graphics" games seem to have a higher incidences of this happening. Since they sent it in, they haven't kept track if this was the case still. Since sending it off, they pooled their money and bought a fan for the back. They seemed to think that it might have over-heated. I don't know for sure but it sounds plausible. I can have the oldest pop on here tomorrow and give you some ideas to try if you would like.

We got the circle of death on our 360 last year. It only took about a week because they sent us a new console rather than fixing ours and returning it. You will lose saved games.

If you remove the hard drive before shipping you wouldn't lose your games, right?

He was playing Too Human and then Gears of War2.

We sent it out on Wednesday. It seems to have been covered by extended warranty even though our warranty ran out. He is driving me crazy and tracking the progress every half hour . He has Halo ODST on pre order and he says he will be devastated if it comes in before he gets his xbox back.
