I have been hearing about how big the line is and how the line outside is just people waiting to put their stuff in lockers. So what is the best way to enter FJ? Do you just walk by everyone?
We want to use the regular line once to see it then use the single rider line. Could someone please explain where these are? We always stay onsite so we will get the early entry and won't be carrying anything so no need for lockers.:thumbsup2

The last time we went, during President's Week, they were telling everyone with bags to stay to the right and everyone else stay to the left.

Ask to do the castle tour. You should bypass most or all of the line, being able to see all there is to see in the queue. Then when you exit, get into the single rider line. In early January, we never waited more than 10 min even though there were 2+ hour waits for the regular line. At times, the line was extremely long just to get to the single rider line. Plus it was an unorganized "sea of humanity."

A tip that one of the CMs gave us was to go into the gift shop and enter the single rider line through the locker room. They apparently didn't consider this line jumping because the really long line was for standby and it was blocking single riders from being able to get to the single rider line which, as I said, was almost empty the whole day.

Be aware, though, that if you get in the single rider line, you WILL be split up! They turned people away who tried to stay together and, for the first time ever, I did see someone kicked out of the ride for line jumping in the regular line. They showed up at the front of line while I was in the single rider line and apparently the CM recognized that they had just ridden a few minutes earlier and knew that there was a 1-2 hour wait at the time.

Is there a chicken exit when you get to the ride? The reason I ask is there will be one in our party that will not get on the ride. So instead of doing the castle tour (alone), they could see the same stuff with the rest of the group, then bail at the ride.

Absolutely. I would also recommend the "chicken" hold your bags so that you don't have to deal with the lockers. Tell any TM who asks that's what you're doing. :thumbsup2

With no bags, stay to the left as you pass through the Hogwarts gates. You will pass up hoards of people in that locker line!

Once you get inside, stay to the left as far as you can, it is a mess in there with the locker people coming from the right. It is also very dark, which leads to more confusion.

Are there things to do and see while waiting in line for 1-2 hrs? Can you tour the castle without going on the ride? Mainly curious kuz I think less than half our group will actually ride the ride, but my younger kids will want to see the castle.

Things to see: yes. Things to do: not so much.

Yes, there is a castle tour queue everyone can do without riding. You can do it at your own pace and I've never seen a wait for it. Do this, combined with single rider (with common waits of 5-10 minutes or less, max 30), and you'll see and do almost everything there is to FJ with minimal wait.
