Question about WDW Gingerbread Houses

Just out of my own curiosity and nothing else.......

I have seen some really beautiful photos of the gingerbread houses currently on display at the resorts. Sorry if I sound naive, but are these houses REALLY made of gingerbread? Are they entirely edible, or just made to look like gingerbread houses? Not that I would think anyone would actually eat them, but I am just curious to see if they actually make them entirely of edible products. DH is really into making gingerbread houses...he makes one every year and it is completely edible. He bakes it from scratch and makes the royal icing from scratch and it is all very tasty! Of course it is small, not life-size!!

Do they have these gingerbread houses at every deluxe resort?

They are made out of real edible gingerbread. Check the Food Network or Travel Channel this month - I'm sure there are some Disney holiday specials on.

I just saw on the one special the head chef from the Grand Floridian explaining how they start baking the gingerbread in July for the house there. And all the backs of the tiles are coated in chocolate.

There is the very large house at the GF, a carousel at the Beach Club, something at the Boardwalk (last year it was a gazebo), the Poly has a lot of small different gingerbread houses made by their staff, and this year the Contemporary is having a gingerbread Christmas tree with the Small World-type characters (saw it on TV) -- last year they had Pinocchio & Gepetto. I liked the Beach Club carousel the best. There may be others as well - but those are the ones I know.

Wow, incredible!! Fascinating how they are made out of real gingerbread and they start baking in the summer!

Anyone know if the accessories are edible too?
