My 23 year ols daughter recently started to take one a day women's vitamins. She says they upset her belly. She bearly weighs 90 lbs and I was wondering if the vitamins are too strong for her. Does weight matter? I know she only takes 1/2 a tylenol when sick. LOL

I'm not sure if weight matters from a medical standpoint, but I know that my best friend when she was pregnant only took 1/2 a prenatal vitamin as she was very tiny. But, it might be best to consult a doctor to make sure she is not getting too much of a certain vitamin.

One A Day's also did that to me! Centrum has been the only vitamin that does not upset my stomach.

I am 23, weigh more than 90 pounds, and had to stop taking the one a day women's vitamins because of the intense nausea I had after taking them.

Is she taking them on an empty stomach? I can only take my vitamins with food (like a full meal) - according to my physician that is very normal/common.

I am far from 90 pounds and i get an upset stomach from taking my one a day vitamin on an empty stomach. She should eat something before taking it.

Me too. They actually work better that way as they combine with the nutrients in foods.

Also, I take the Flintstone's Complete. It pretty much has everything an adult vitamin has but in CHEWABLE form. :thumbsup2

Same here-I cannot take a vitamin on an empty stomach or else I am totally nauseated.

Take with food. Iron is very upsetting to the tummy.

absolutey eat first-i take one a day womens-as directed by my doc-for the iron content since i have anemia. But if i do not eat first they make me sicker than sick. Prenatals which are high in iron did the same thing-and i can not take a straight iron supplement-if i have to go to that it has to be IV

I'll agree with all the people above me, don't take them on an empty stomach. I took my vitamins for years first thing in the morning. But I don't always eat breakfast and they started bothering my stomach a few years ago. Now I take them with dinner. Probably not the best time if day, but no more stomach issues.

I wouldn't take One-A-Day vitamins either...

Not just because they might make my stomach feel sick, but because many vitamins can literally make me sick.

I hate to say it, but the nasty and chemical stuff they put in vitamins is NOT always good for you...

I can take these, all natural, sugar, yeast, soy, etc... free vitamins.
I highly recommend them!

I don't think that they are too hard to find.

tell her to try to take them RIGHT before she goes to sleep. Also if she can't stomach adult ones 2 flinstone (or any other kid ones) = 1 adult multi at least that's what my ob told me. I took kid ones instead.. the gummy ones are very good!

she is probably just getting a stomach acid/indigestion issue from them. She should take them with a small meal or snack.

Flinstones type children's vitamins are generally enough vitamins for any adult (more is often overkill unless a person has a horrible diet). She can switch to something like this and it will be a bit easier for her stomach.

Vitamins that have iron in them (the "women's vitamins" usually do) are a lot worse than regular vitamins. Iron can be really hard on the stomach. She can switch to some kind of iron free vitamin and try that.

Funny you mentioned this. I have a bottle of this stuff just sitting there because it, literally, makes me sick. I've tried taking it at different times--before working out, after working out, on an empty stomach, on a full stomach--no luck. I used to be fine with it, but lately it hasn't settled with me. :confused3 I've gone back to my childhood with the Flintstone vitamins and that seems to be working.

Vitamens make me sick too, it's the iron in them that just don't agree with me in a straight shot like that.
I take One a Day for Women.
If I eat a meal with the vitamen I notice it's better. The feeling usually lasts 1/2 an hour or so if I don't.

She said that she has been taking them with meals. I think I will tell her to try the flintstone vitamins. Thanks for your advice. :thumbsup2

Try other vitamins as well. Every brand has a different formulation. Could the one she's on isn't balanced right for her body.

Also, check the ingredients. I was getting really sick after I took vitamins. Vomitting and everything. Turns out one ingredient was a sulfate compound and I'm allergic to sulfur. Overall a very tiny compentent of the pill, but enough to make me sick. It's not just the active ingredients, but the inactive ones can make her sick as well if she has an allergy she doesn't know about.

btw - I've found generics to be a lot more tolerable (and sulfur free!) tan brand names.

Actually, kid's vitamins are based on the ADULT RDA.
It not necessary to double up on them - one is just fine for most adults.

Young children should only take a half. :)

Funny, most multivitimans do that to me. I can take iron, I can take B vitamins, I can take most of them separately on an empty stomach no less. I USED to be able to take the multi-vitamins. But the one a day women's were the worst!
