Is there any advantages or positives to a dedicated two bedroom and lockout room?

Is there any advantages or positives to a dedicated two bedroom and lockout room?

Our teenagers love having a lock off because it is like having their own hotel room. When they were little, it was always nice having a dedicated, because it didn't have its own door to the hallway from the second bedroom. So this could be viewed as a positive or negative depending upon your situation.

Another positive is that dedicated 2 BR's very often have two regular beds instead of a sleeper sofa.

We ended up in a lock off unit at Vero last time. The Master Bedroom had only one bedside table and one lamp because it was a lock-off. The space on the other side of the Master Bed which would normally have also had a bedside table and lamp instead had a lock-off doorway. It was very annoying.

Yep, with the kids alone in the second bedroom, for security reasons, we do not want an outside door in their room. So a dedicated provides that.

However, if you had another couple or some adults in there, they might enjoy having their own private entrance and kitchenette.

Okay, so you want to know the security reasons I'm talking about?



In January of 2005, we went on a Disney Cruise. The 6 of us plus my parents in two rooms. We had two kids, they had two kids. All worked great.

One night, around midnight, in my parents' cabin, someone used a key to unlock the door and quietly enter the room. Now picture my father, who looks an awful lot like George Costanza, in one flying move he jumps up onto the middle of the bed in his tidy whities, puts out his best karate hands, screams indiscriminantly, and yells, "what are you doing in here?!!!!!" My mother screamed, fell off the bed and nearly had a coronary. The womanly shadow screamed and said a hasty, "sorry!" and left the cabin. Dad, still yelling, followed her out in the hall, still in his tidy whities, but she had disappeared. My daughters never heard a thing.

The next morning we ran into our next door neighbors in the hall, a mom and dad and the aforementioned womanly shadow - an 18 year old girl! She was coming back from getting a drink refill in her mug, accidentally used the wrong door, but her key WORKED! Apologies were exchanged and a good chuckle, too. Thankfully, no harm no foul. But we did get our keys changed anyway.

And that is why we choose a dedicated 2 bedroom villa.

A lock-off will have a separate thermostat and it's own internet connection.
