Question about UY and ressies

Hubby and I are planning to buy DVC, the biggest question right now is if we wanna buy resale or buy through Disney. I have a couple of questions that might help us along in our decision.

1. If I buy through Disney, it would probably be in December when we head down on our WDW trip this year. We would like to take the tour and then take the plunge. If we do that, are we allowed to pick our UY? We will always be travelling between October and May (hubby cannot handle the extremely hot weather) and I was thinking that a Sept or Oct UY would work best.

2. Now, if our UY is, say for October, and we want to make ressies for the end of Oct, can we make those ressies at our 11 month window for the coming UY points?

It is so hard deciding if we want SSR, which we can get through resale a lot cheaper than through Disney, or if we want AKV. I love AKL, and my favorite restaurant at WDW is Boma, but I am always a sucker for a good deal...

#1 When you buy thru Disney, they will assign a UY, I don't think you have a choice.

#2 Ressies can be made 11 months from the checkout date.

There may be some nice incentives when buying from Disney. Their current promotion is about to end, but a new one should follow. It is much easier to buy direct & you know exactly what you get. If financing is an issue DVC offers aa great plan, but the interest is a bit high.

I requested, and got, my desired UY even though at the time they were actively selling a different use year month.

Here is another thing to consider. Do you need to take the tour prior to your decision? If you bought an Oct user year now, it would come with Oct '06 points (which they will allow you to bank as a new purchaser). you would then also get your Oct 07 points in just a few weeks. If you wait till Dec, you will only start with 07 points.

This is an additional consideration on top of the current promos.
