Question about using points for Disneyland

My husband and I might be going to San Diego in June 2003 for a reunion with his family. Of course, that's so close to Disneyland, and I've never been, that we'll have to tack on 2-3 days to the trip to visit Disneyland.

I know the dates we will be going, but they could change by a day or two. His family is not the type to plan things too far in advance.

My question is, since you use "reservation points" instead of "vacation points" to stay at Disneyland, and I have to cancel, don't those points remain "reservation points?" That means they can't be used at DVC? I'm not sure on this.

Or do they go into a holding account? Or is that only if I cancel less than 60 days in advance? And if I DO cancel less than 60 days in advance, are they reservation points in a holding account?

ReneeQ,

They remain reservation points. As long as you cancel with 6 or more days notice, the reservation points are credited to your account. They can not be used for DVC or II and they will expire at the end of the use year.

If you can go, try for the Grand Californian. It is well worth the extra points. The hotel is beautiful and you are IN the CA park. We had a standard view and it was very nice. Disneyland is a short (5 minutes at the most) walk.
Don't miss "Soaring Over California". It is one the best attractions that Disney has done in a long time. Have fun!

Just wanted to add to Happy Birthday Cat's post that reservation points can be used for the WDW non-DVC resorts, DLP, DCL, any of the resorts in the Conceirge Collection, or any of the options in the Adventurer Collection.

This is what my member Benefits Guidebook says about cancelling accomodations reserved through the Disney Collection:

If cancellation occurs more than (a) 72 hours prior to the commencement of the reserved time period for the Disneyland Hotel, Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel or (b) 5 days prior to the commencement of the reserved time period for any WDW resort Hotel or (c) ........., the DVC Member or Guest may only request, subject to availability, reservation of other accomodations at the same or another Resort Hotel through the The Disney Collection, or reservation of other accomodations through The Conceirge Collection or Adventurer Collection, which requires the same or fewer Reservation Points as the Disney Collection Accomodations for which the reservation was cancelled. Requests for and occupancy of accomodations at a Resort Hotel following cancellation of an initial reservation must occur within the Use Year during which the DVC Accomodations assigned to DVD may be occupied. If cancellation occurs less than (a) 72 hours prior to the commencement of the reserved time period for the Disneyland Hotel, Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel or (b) 5 days prior to the commencement of the reserved time period for any WDW resort Hotel or (c) ........., or if the DVC Member or Guest fails to check in within 24 hours following the commencement of the reserved time period for any Resort Hotel, the DVC Member or Guest is not entitled to request or receive other accomodations at any Resort Hotel and is not entitled to occupy the DVC Accomodations assigned to DVD.

Just wanted you to see there is a different cacncellation notice for the Disneyland Resort Hotels than there is for the WDW Resort Hotels. My Guidebook is from 1999. I would advise you to verify the cancellation policy with MS before you actually book. IMHO, this is a good opportunity to send an email to MS so that you have a written answer/document. Hope you have a great time at the reunion and at DL.
