Question about using banked and/or current use year points.

You'd think after being a member for over 4 years I would have figured it out by now. I've rented my through DIS 3 or 4 times over the years but this has never come up before. We've got to make a decision tonight about planning and can't wait for Member Services to open tomorrow. I started doing some reading and can't seem to find the answer.

Our year starts in Dec. We've got some banked and now have current use year points as well. I'm guessing we can borrow from next year's points, too. I'd like to rent some points and also plan a Disney family trip for later this year. Can I choose which points I'd like to use for the rental reservation and which for the family vacation, or must I use up the banked points before the current use year points and then next year's borrowed points? IIRC, renters would prefer using current year points because they are more flexible with redepositing into my account in case someone backs out, right?

The banked points will expire on November 31, 2005 - so they do have that complication if used for a rental. (I'd just make it clear to your renter that once full payment has been made, the points are theirs and are subject to all normal DVC deadlines and policies.)

The current points also expire on November 30, 2005 unless they are banked subject to normal banking deadlines. If you use these for a rental, make sure your renter knows that there are deadlines to back out of the rental (see note above).

Borrowed points will be moved into the current Use Year and also expire on November 30, 2005. If used for a rental, they are also subject to the concerns already expressed.

Just be sure to have your cancellation policy clearly defined and you shouldn't have any problems.

Sure, you can use whichever points you'd like. In general, I think it's best to use the banked points first - that way there are no deadlines to worry about except expiration. In the case of a rental, just make sure the cancellation policy is clear.

always use the expiring points............and if you cant make rent them fast or do what i did one yr...........make a reservation way out with them and sell it or go on it.............we intended to sell it but we wound up going and it was well worth it.
