Question about upgrading to annual pass

We are going to wdw January 4-9 and also February 24-March 3.

We already purchased 10 day park hoppers with a CDN discount a while ago. We have decided to use those during our January trip and upgrade to annual passes.

Will our annual pass expiration date be different depending on what day we upgrade? If we upgrade on our last day, will our annual passes be good until January 9th of 2019?

If the CM doing your upgrade does their job correctly, expiration should be 1 year from the date you first used the ticket being upgraded regardless of when you do the upgrade.

Thank you. I figured that is how it would work.

After I asked the question, I realized we will have to upgrade right away anyway because we will be staying offsite and will need the free parking perk of the pass!

The food and merchandise discounts are another reason to upgrade right away too.

Plus I didn't think you could upgrade after your first day. At least that has always been the case when I have done it.

1. Guests can upgrade a ticket as late as close of business ON the same day that they use that ticket's last asset.
2. I'm not sure why you'd think that, unless you got some bad info the first time you decided to upgrade.
(Lots of bad info out there. That's why we try to correct it so often on these boards.)

Be aware that you'll essentially lose the discount when you upgrade. Since you purchased tickets directly from Disney, only the price you paid (not the current gate price) will be credited towards the new AP. (Unless there's something I don't know about Canadian tickets)

Thats what I was told by 2 different CMs at DL the first time I did this, so i figured it was the same the next times i tried. That was probably 12 years ago, so maybe it changed since then?

I don't know the upgrade rules at Disneyland.

I have a question. I'm going in Sept and booked the room with the free QS dining. I want to upgrade to the AP. Will that affect any of my dining credits? I did book a couple of table services just because my son wants to eat there.

Yeah, we will lose the discount. It still makes more sense for us to upgrade though, now that we are adding another trip and staying off site. I guess I can look at it like we put a down payment on the annual passes. Lol
