Some of the posts on here got me wondering..........when you plan a trip do you pick places you think are gay friendly? or do you pick a place you want to visit and not worry about it being gay friendly?
have you ever traveled anywhere that was not friendly toward you?

I am just curious.........we spend time in the summer in Ogunquit maine, and on occasion provincetown........both have a large gay community........we are a married staight couple with kids..........both places are very family friendly as well as gay friendly.

We have been together almost 9 years now. We have only vacationed in places that we feel comfortable in.....mainly WDW but some time in Savannah, Daytona Beach, and Cocoa Beach. I am a WDW addict, so it's hard for me to give up my Mouse time. ;) Maggie

I guess we are all different. We do frequent wdw at least once a year, however like I said on a different thread if I were forced to choose I would pick a “gay” destination over one that is not.

My girlfriend and I have traveled many places that are friendly and some not so friendly. It is just deciding if we want a vacation or an experience. We do however cross places off that I feel we (as a gay couple) defiantly would not be safe in.

I can't really answer that honestly. We live in a small town in Tennessee, just about anywhere is more gay friendly LOL

I pretty much go where I want to go, when I want to go there. I've been around way too long to give a hoot what other people think!

The only problem we've had was when we were near Dollywood and asked where the Indian Casino was. :scared1: You would have thought we were asking directions to Satan's house!:lmao:

we are about as ungay as could be - if there is such a thing LOL. ( Not that we are NOT comfortable with who we are - all of our family / friends are well aware of who we are.) We usually go on vacation with straight friends - or if we travel alone - it's to where ever we want. We just booked a cruise to Bermuda - we stopped there last year on a cruise and LOVED it. Been reading though that's it's not very gay friendly.

This doesn't bother us though - we usually go with the flow. So not a big deal.

It doesn't have to be gay-friendly, but we would never consider gay-hostile. For example, we would never travel to the middle-east. I can't think of a place in the US offhand, that we wouldn't travel to, it is more some international destinations where the culture is "hang them now, ask questions later" oriented.

We are so looking forward to it. It was so different than other caribbean islands we've been to. spotless, yet a bit expensive.

We usually pick a place simply based upon our desire to go. We've never experienced any hostility or any difficulty.

I haven't been on many vacations, but(and I don't want to offend anyone) but I would pretty much avoid anywhere in the bible belt section of the U.S. As someone eluded to, TN isn't my idea of a vacation. My mom, grandma, and some relatives went to Nashville and loved it. I woulda hated every second of it.

I'm not as much concerned about safety I guess, more about how many weird looks we're gonna get. The best thing about my recent WDW trip was that we had two top hat mickey ears on, a 2 year anniversary button, and held hands everywhere we went. For every 1 person who gave us a bad look, there were 5 cast members who congratulated us and went out of their way to make sure we were happy. Some cast members actually yelled to us across the gates as we were just about to get on splash mountain. My bf hates attention but I love it, bring it on!

Ok enough of my rant. I guess if I wanted gay friendly I'd go to Europe, since they're so much more progressive than we are. UK here I come!

We also tend to go where ever we want to vacation. We do appreciate places that are more welcoming - but don't go out of our way to look for them.

We do go out of our way to avoid places that are not welcoming - trying to spend our $ in places that appreciate the business.

We own DVC and have APs so we always consider Disney first, but sometimes the deals Mike gets being in the travel industry are so good we decide to do something else instead.

Last thing that affects our trip planning is work. We both travel for work s few times a year - sometimes to places we ordinarily wouldn't think if first for vacation....if possible we bring each other along so we're not traveling alone and get to see different parts of the world together on our Company's dime (which they are OK with).
