The biggest thing that Natalie (and her family) needs right now is support, and it sounds like she's getting it an abundance
Kudos to you for being so supportive, and willing to learn and understand more about gender dysphoria! Two of my friends are trans (one FtM, and one MtF), and my MtF friend has an extremely supportive family, where as my MtF friend doesn't really have the support of his family, which is extremely sad. Most of his family still use the wrong pronouns, and address him with his old name, which he finds really frustrating. None of his family seems to understand or be willing to learn about any of it, and instead are choosing to ignore it. This is not the way to go about things. Luckily for him though, he has many supportive friends, and there are some excellent resources for him in my city. He's been transitioning for close to two years now.
The biggest thing to understand about this, is that Natalie is still the same person everyone knew before, she's just finally able to express herself in the manner in which she's been wanting to do for a long time. Sure it will take some time for everyone to get used to using the new pronouns, and new name, but with time it's like second nature.
I hope the surgery goes well, and she has a speedy recovery.
