Question about transferring committed points

I have a reservation in April for a dear Florida friend and me to spend some time together. She just told me her husband has been diagnosed with returning cancer, so of course, doesn't know if we'll be able to go.
She didn't want me to cancel, but to wait and see. I'm more than willing to do that. I do have a problem, however. I probably won't be able to use those points in Florida before the end of my uy. The reservation is only for three days as I was going to stay at her home some of the time. My questions is can I transfer them to reserve a room at Disneyland Resort? Would rather do that than have to try to rent the reservation.

Yes - you can cancel that reservation and use the points for a reservation in CA. You will need to make the reservation prior to the last 2 months of your Use Year though. If you have a December Use Year the reservation would need to be made prior to October 1 in order to use the points for a non-DVC reservation.

Actually, I think you can make reservations for the DL resort hotels in the last 2 months of your UY and travel during that time as well. This was a change made in 2005 and I believe that the Fall Vacation Magic indiciates that it still applies. I think that the $95 fee is also not applicable for DL resorts. The OP should check the the Vacation Magic when received for the most current info.

Suzanne is correct - thanks for pointing that out. DVC members cannot use points to make and use a reservation during the last 2 months of their Use Year - with the exception of the DL resorts. The reason for this is to provide MS with the opportunity to rent DVC accommodations to "pay" for the non-DVC stay and within 60 days any unreserved DVC villas are automatically available to CRO for cash reservations.

The changes recently announced will take effect after January 1, 2008 will also affect the ability of DVC members to reserve non-DVC options - but the DL resorts also have some immunity from those changes.
