Question about tipping front desk?

First, let me say that I am sorry if this has been asked before but I did a search and could not find anything. :confused3

This will be our 5th stay at WDW and in that time we have checked into 7 Disney hotels and never once have our requests been met, we have been given a handicapped room, were downgraded at the Yacht Club on our honeymoon, 2 smoking rooms and the exact opposite of what we requested.

We still had a very good time on all of our trips but I was a little bothered the entire
time that our requests were so blatantly disregarded.
I also realize that requests are just that REQUESTS but, I would really like to know how to get a request met. Should I tip the CM checking me in? If so how much would be appropriate? I am always very happy to be there and very nice to them but apparently that is not enough so I am asking for some much needed help with how to get my requests met.

This is our 10th anniversary, my birthday and we saved for three years for this vacation so we could finally stay where we have always wanted to at the Boardwalk and it is extra special to us because we watched it being built during our honeymoon.
This is not to say that my vacation is any more important than anyone elses, I just want it to be super special.

Sorry this is so long... any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated! :wave2:

BTW, It is a 1 bdrm (through CRO) in the villas with a "preferred view" and I know that DVC gets all the Boardwalk views so I requested - non-smoking, village green, high floor.

I understand your concerns.

This was my 4th time staying at a WDW resort, and previously all my request made by phone were ignored. UNTIL THIS TIME...I faxed my request to the resort room coordinator, 4 days before my arrival. And I received every one of my requests.

Here is the link that told me what to do.

Good Luck :wizard:

I have never tipped a front desk person for helping me get a room I'd be happy with. It's not really considered a tipped position. I would think that if you tried to tip them, they would turn it down.

You need to check in earlier, be prepared to wait for a room and be more assertive. If you paid for a view with the YC than there is no excuse for you being downgraded without being compensated. Keep in mind a water view isn't necessarily a view of Crescent Lake, I'm assuming you were actually downgraded. A non-smoking request is very reasonable.

Are you asking for a King bedded room? Many (most?) of the king bedded rooms in some of the resorts are HA. There are very few king bedded rooms, K requests in WDW pretty much wipe out any other request you have. If you're insisting on a K bed then the CM should have told you that's limiting the rooms you get.

We were downgraded to a roof/parking lot view at the YC and I called and asked to be changed and they said that was the only room they had left. I did not request a king room as I did not even know they had them until I was assigned the HA room and then I thought only the HA rooms had them. We do plan on being in line at 6:45 we are even flying in the day before and staying at the ASSports the first night, so we could be there first thing. (A little obsessive? Well, yeah it is  ) I have studied the map of the BWV and know which areas would be acceptable if I don't get the village green. I read on allearsnet about faxing and I will try that also.
I was asking about the tipping because ummm ( again) I saw a guy do it in a movie and thought it might work for me! :goodvibes
Thanks for your suggestions and I will try to be more assertive this time, especially if they say here is your room facing the parking lot! - I am just afraid I will start crying right then and there and look like an idiot! :scared:

Are you booking BWV through CRO (as a hotel reservation) or did you rent points from a member? If you rented points it's next to impossible to get an upgrade, if you booked a standard view that's what you'll get.

I'm not sure about getting their at 6:45a. They'll try to give you an available room which will be one that no one wanted the previous night. BWV tends to have high occupancy, plan on not getting a room until the afternoon. MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM you'll wait for an acceptable room.

Booked thru CRO, and they told me it was "preferred view". The water or gardens.
LewisC; I will tell them I will wait for a good room as I will be more than happy too! That is a great idea.
Thank you SO much for all your help,
