Question about Timing of Reservation Using Banked Points

This one seems a different wrinkle than the usual banking questions. What happens if I want to make a reservation during my 11 month window for a home resort, but the reservation requires more points than in that Use Year? Do the points have to be banked prior to the reservation for you to use them? Or when making the reservation are you given the option of banking current points directly into your reservation next year?

Let's say I have a 25 point contract and want to make a reservation that required 50 points in 2018. Do the 2017 points need to be banked first for me to be able to use them in a reservation for 2018? Will my only option be to borrow from 2019 if I haven't banked yet? Or will the reservation allow me to pull oldest points first if I want?

Does the answer change if I want to make a reservation in 2018 that would require 75 points? In other words, I would need both all my current and future points, so I would need to use both banked and borrowed points for my reservation.

I hope this is clear. I'm more interested in understanding the process. It is possible that I will want to make a reservation in 2018 prior to my banking deadline for 2017.

Thanks for your help!

Yes.

The reservation system will only allow you to borrow points if necessary.

Yes.

Thanks Michael. That's what I figured, but managing two contracts and the whole banking thing is new to me. Don't want to mess up or be in a position where I have to take an unplanned trip, or lose my points.

A lot will depend on your UY and when that 2018 trip falls. For instance, if you have an Oct. UY and you want to make a reservation for June 2018, The trip would fall in your 2017 UY and you would need to borrow from your 2018 UY to make the reservation.

But if the reverse were the case (a June UY, looking to book an Oct 2018 visit), then the trip falls within your 2018 UY. In that case, you would have to bank the 2017 points into your 2018 UY in order to have enough points to make the reservation.

Yeah, sorry I didn't specify Use Year throughout. That was implied and assumed in what I was writing. So when I said 2018, I was referring generically to my 2018 UY period, not the calendar year 2018. I understand that when you trip is in 2018 could conceivably fall into your 2017 UY or 2018 UY.
