Question about ticket to pass upgrade

I looked for an answer to this and couldn't find one, so sorry if this is already somewhere!

Season pass block out dates end for the summer on 8/14 so we have a trip planned for that weekend and planned to buy our passes then, however we would like to meet friends from out of town for the day before block out dates are over, so would we be able to purchase tickets for the day and upgrade the one day Magic Kingdom tickets to season passes as we leave the park, even though block out dates will still be effective? TIA!

You can purchase any time.
You just can't USE it to enter the parks on blackout dates.
