I’ve been looking into getting a “throwaway room” for our upcoming trip (next summer) to Universal to save money on the express passes, and I’ve found a couple that would save us $200 which is a great deal. My husband, however, wants to see about using the room instead of just “throwing it away” but most rooms I’m finding are for families of five and there’s six of us (two adults and four kids that will be ten and younger at time of travel). Most people I’ve talked to have suggested just checking in as five and purchasing the express pass for our 6th member separately, but I’m not sure that would be as easy as they make it sound since I’m assuming they might need every party member present for things like wrist bands (I don’t know if they use wrist bands, I’m just using that as an example)? Also how would that work for things like early admission into the park? Only five of us would have early admission to the park but our 6th member would not. We could forego the early admission really since it’s the express passes we really want, but would anyone be able to give me some clarity on how it works? Or are there any Universal resorts any of you would recommend that have family suites for a great price and include express passes?

I’d appreciate any and all info!

Each person registered in the room will receive their own key card with their name printed on it. These will be your EP and will be used for early entry. If you did a throwaway room (or even partially used it) the sixth person would not be able to join you for early entry and would need to separately purchase EP.

You may want to compare the cost for 2 smaller rooms of 3 people each. I believe when I checked once that was cheaper than a suite- but so much would depend on timing and room availability.

You can book two rooms to cover the 6 for your family

Discussion on how to “beat the system” and have 6 in a standard room for 5, will not happen here

Loews hotels are guided by city ordinances on the number of occupants per rooms
