Question About the Waitlist

From what I understand if you waitlist say 3 nights, the 8th, 9th and 10th, your waitlist wouldn't come though unless all three nights had become available, correct? So if I was at the top of the waitlist and the 9th and 10the opened up, and the person behind me only needed the 9th and 10th, they would get it?

What happens in the above situation (I need 8th, 9th, and 10th) but instead the person behind me needs the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and those 4 dates open up...would I get the three nights I need? Or would it still go to the person behind me because it would "complete" his waitlist?

Also, is there any place I can read up on the actual workings of the waitlist system? I did a search but couldn't really find anything like that. Is it just something people have pieced together over the years? How will I know if my waitlist comes through?

TIA

The wait list, if there really is one, is a well kept secret. Since it went automated last year, I think that the way that it is filled may have changed. I know that the few times that I asked about it, I couldn't get a straight answer.

Yes, that is correct, assumig you asked to waitlist for the entire stay - checking in on the 8th and out on the 11th.

Yes, correct. This is why MS really can't tell you where you stand on the waitlist - they have no way to know how the nights will become available. This is also why some members elects to waitlist for each night individually. It's more risky, since you might have to move back and forth if all the days don't come through, but you do have a better chance of getting what you want if you waitlist for each day individually. Only you can decide if the risk is worth it. (I really hate to move, so in most cases I would choose to waitlist for the entire trip to avoid that risk).

If you are first on the waitlist, the three nights (8th, 9th & 10th) would go to you and if no one on the waitlist below you was waiting for the 7th all by itself, the 7th would be returned to general inventory.

Also, is there any place I can read up on the actual workings of the waitlist system? I did a search but couldn't really find anything like that. Is it just something people have pieced together over the years? How will I know if my waitlist comes through?
AFAIK, there isn't anything that you can read to find out about the actual workings of the waitlist. What I posted is what I've gleaned from other posts, conversations with MS and posts by one of the MS CMs who used to post here on occasion.

You can find out if your waitlist came through (before you get your confirmation letter in the snail mail) by checking the Members' Website. You will see the new reservation in your vacation details section.

I've had to waitlist a couple times....and can say from experience I have had better luck waitlisting night-by-night. For example, my current waitlist is for the week between christmas and ny......I was waitlisted for the entire week, nothing. So, I called back and had them change to day-by-day. While on the phone the last 2 nights became available....within a week, the first 2 nights opened up. Now, I have 9 months to get those last 2 nights booked to complete my week at AKV.

Good Luck!

Hmmm, I have my December (first part of the month) waitlist split into 2 sections instead of day by day. Maybe I should switch to day by day.
