Question about the new promo

Ok so I had ALREADY had a trip booked for next April for my daughter's 8th birthday. We have gone for my 2 older daughter's birthdays in the past and my youngest has been asking and asking to go on her birthday. Well my middle daughter's birthday just happens to be on New Year's eve so it was always convenient because it happened to be during a holiday anyway and then my oldest is in February so we were able to celebrate it last year during Presiden'ts week but my youngest is on April 27th. Not near ANY holiday. And we don't want to take them out of school at all. Well this year spring break is in April so I told her we could go then (even though I HATE to go at that busy time) and we would just celebrate it a few weeks early.

I don't like to take them out of school and thus that is why we are going early.

Well NOW they release the info and we find this stuff out. We have AP's anyway but then I hear about the other stuff you can get. So what I am wondering is if we go and plan to celebrate her birthday but since it is not her actual birthday do we get NOTHING? Since it is not her REAL birthday are you out of luck? I mean I had this trip planned well before and I have already paid for our rooms and we can't change anyway cuz of school. I just think that stinks that she is going to miss out on the birthday fun card or whatever for two weeks shy because of it.

Any thoughts?

I believe it has to be on your actual birthday to get the free stuff.

I think your probably out of luck. Otherwise, we would all be going in and saying "well I'm celebrating my birthday but it is really next month."

Yes, I believe the pp is correct. It has to be the actual birthday. Imagine how many people go within a few weeks or a month of their birthdays. I'm sure Disney took that into consideration when they launched this promo. They're not doing it to be nice, they are doing it to make money. They are going to bring in thousands of people that wouldn't have normally gone, but since they get in free on their birthday they are now planning trips. It's not so much to help the people that already have trips planned as it is to get people who hadn't planned on coming to come.

Yes it looks like it has to be on her birthday...from the Disneyland site: Q: I can't come on my birthday. Can I get free admission to a Theme Park on another day?

A: Unfortunately, no. The free admission to a Theme Park on your birthday offer means just what it says. It's only valid for free admission on your birthday in 2009.

But if you look on the site there are so many ways to celebrate her birthday: http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/di...index?name=CelebrationsDLROverviewPage&bhqs=1

From cakes to dinning and the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique
...what fun...jc

I am sure you can make a very magical birthday for your middle daughter without this birthday deal. You aren't the only person who will be affected so.

We've just booked DCL for October 31st, 2009 and DH's birthday is November 3rd. We won't be in the parks on that day, as we'll be on the cruise, and as such we won't get the birthday goodies. However, what person - adult or child - would be so upset at the thought of missing the few token birthday goodies that it would dampen a Disney vacation scheduled for their birthday?

Oh we already planned to have a party at Goofy's kitchen and I planned to order a cake etc. And I didn't want free admission because we are AP holders. I just thought it stunk that she would miss out on the birthday card because she is going to miss it by a few weeks. We had already booked this trip months ago and I just paid for our hotel etc. And as I said I can't really change it anyway because she can't miss the school. I get why they are doing it but it just stinks that it has to be the actual day because I know a LOT of people go to celebrate their birthdays a few days before or whatever but oh well. I mean I get why they are doing it but it still stinks for her cuz this is probably the only time we will go to celebrate her birthday because of when her birthday is. It would have been nice if she could have gotten a little extra something special because my older daughter's birthday is on New Year's eve and she was born on the millenium and has always kind of gotten a big deal made over her because of it. Not on purpose mind you it just ended up that way. And then the other one is the oldest and you know how that goes being the oldest so she always feels left out being the "baby". I wanted to make her birthday special because she always feels "left out".

Oh well hopefully she will enjoy Goofy's kitchen and the cake we get her and hopefully it won't be too crowded with it being spring break. I worry about that. We usually don't like to go on such busy holidays but it couldn't be helped.

Thanks for the info. I was kind of afraid that would be the case but I was hoping since it was so close to her birthday that maybe she might still get something. OH well.

I think this promo idea was not well thought out because ALOT of people who go to disneyland to celebrate a childs birthday do not actually go on the birthdate..meaning..say the child was born on the 3rd..and the 3rd is a wednesday.. well they might could take the family on the weekend of the 5th to celebrate.. but can't take the whole family out of school for one actual birthdate.

In our family.. the three grandchildren's birthdays are two weeks apart... so.. there is NO way we can take them to Disneyland on their exact birthdate.. three sets of roundtrip flights for 5 plus hotel and food for 5:confused3 within a two week period? Not doable.

See I agree. I mean we took my older two and my youngest has been bugging me for years to take her but because her birthday falls at a time that is not normally around ANY holiday it would mean going during a regular time of year and unless it fell on a weekend she would have to miss school to go. Since in 09 Easter break happens to fall in April instead of March we decided to go then and just celebrate her birthday a few weeks early.

Like I said I understand why they are doing it the way they are, but especially for kids, you would think they could do SOMETHING. I mean maybe if you brought proof of their date of birth and if their birthday was in the same month or something. I don't know. It just stinks because our plans were already made and there was nothing I could do to change them.

I know to that dh and my birthdays are 5 days apart but they happen to be right at the end of the school year and it would be REALLY hard for us to go then because the kids could not miss school RIGHT at the end of the school year. And my older daughter's birthday is New Year's eve when all of our passes are blocked out. That only leaves my oldests and we were JUST there for her birthday this past year and I am already going in March AND April in 09 so we certainly aren't going to go in February too.

It is a great idea but unfortunately I wish they would have said something earlier than now.

Why don't you do it yourself??
1. Get a character birthday card and sign it yourself for the character

2. Buy Disney Dollars $10.00 for a Disney goody

3. You have the cake

And if you think that is not fair to your other children, they will share the cake
and you can also do a card for them.

This is what parents have been doing before!!
