Happy New Year's

Just woundering if anyone has heard anything on the new Visa card that everyone has been talking about. Is is coming up soon.
We are going home in March and would like to know what types of benefits will be offered on this card.

:jester: Thanks
Sandy & Ed

I was wondering the same thing, I am headed down in May and would hope to take full advantage of the new CC for our trip. I just have not been able to get any info on this card, can you direct me to any web site??

I heard it was in the Spring of 2003, but nothing more specific. I suspect that anyone who is in a Disney database will get a notice, particularly the soon to be forgotten Disney Club members (of which I am one).

I am very curious to see what transpires, too. For years, they have taken away benefits a little at time from the Disney Club/MK Club, the AP's and AMEX. This should prove to be very interesting. I think they're going to need to offer some good benefits for everyone to sign up for a new credit card.

Here is a link to a short article about the new Disney VISA that appeared in the Minneapolis StarTribune this morning:

http://www.startribune.com/stories/425/3553391.html

It was originally published in the New York Times. Here is the text (in case the link doesn't work past today):

Getting a Visa for the Magic Kingdom

New York Times
Published Dec. 29, 2002

The Walt Disney Co. is phasing out the Disney Club, which offers discounts on merchandise, park admissions and packages at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, and replacing it with a Visa card. The Disney Club, which costs $39.95 annually to join, will be disbanded Dec. 31, 2003; the company stopped accepting memberships and renewals earlier this month.

Holders of the new Disney-Visa card, which will be introduced early next year, will accumulate points, based on general credit card purchases, that can be redeemed at Disney stores and theme parks in the United States.

Within six months, points also will be redeemable for Disney productions, such as "The Lion King," at the New Amsterdam Theater in New York.

The company is not planning to charge an annual fee for the card, a Disney spokesman said.

It sounds to me that all "benefits" will be tied to points earned by using the credit card. I am going to miss the MKC and the DC. Don't need another credit card, even if it doesn't have an annual fee.

I am looking forward to using a card like this - if it's a Disney perk - I will use it!

Will this replace the Disney Credit Card I already have?

I usually buy my American Express Travellers' Cheques (checks) at my local CAA (AAA) office. Well to my surprise, they are no longer caring AMEX, they are switching over to VISA!

I even asked the girl, "Are you going the way of Disney!?" She just laughed!

Now my next question is, is AMEX even gonna be anywhere near WDW now? Do we have to start buying Visa Travellers Cheques(checks)? Do they even guarantee them like AMEX?

I'm so confused!

We were speaking with Cm's in the Disney Store the other day about this. They seem to the that the DS is going to go the way of Warner Brothers soon. I am so disappointed with it lately as they have recently taken away the collectibles, infant and adult clothing line from my local stores.

Anyway, were were asking about the card and they mentioned the credit card taking the place of the DCC this spring, but would not tell us if we would still get a discount on the tickets to the park. This is the main reason we purchase the card annually.

Does anyone know if you can get a discount on annual passes with the dvc card?
Thanks,

I read somewhere, and I can't remember where, that the card was announced in the middle of last year but they had to wait until the first part of 2003 before they could make them available. I suspect it had something to do with the AMEX deal. I also remember that DCC (old MKC too lest we forget) will receive a mailing in January 2003 offering the card. I must emphasize that NO ONE IS WILLING TO TALK ABOUT THE BENEFITS OR HOW THEY WILL WORK! I am hoping for more than a redeemable points system, I am an AA mile addict, so CitiBank gets most of my business. Besides, how much would I have to spend to get an annual pass for DW and myself? That is the scary part…
I will wait and see…..

We do all our spending on a reward card now and it is amazing how fast you can accumulate points. If they make it worth it we will definitely be switching.
Here is a link to Disney card info at the visa site. It still does not discuss specific rewards.

Thanks for sharing that information. I have a Six Flags master card and I collect points for free annual passes for my family and coupons for food and merchandise. If Disney comes out with a card like this, I would switch in a second.

At WDW this past week, I tried to pry info out... either they didn't know, or they weren't giving it up!

The only thing they would tell me... Amex will no longer be the official card (the obvious)... and that they weren't sure if the new Visa would replace the Disney Credit Card...

I also got two different answers as to when it would be available... February and March...

I'm praying for a "mileage" type card.

I have no problem dumping a regular card for a "points" card. I just switched a Discover card for a airmiles card. I only have my AMEX for my Disney trips so that card can disappear when I sign up for the Disney Visa. I am curious as to what will become of our excisting Disney Credit card though.

If the new Disney card is anything like this one, I'd use it. The 6F card has a 20 day grace period. Seems kind of short.
